Well think of it this way at least we all know now that that thing was the real deal. However for Apple to do something like that is just simply insane.

apple is working with gizmodo, come on peeople it's not hard to see.. its a marketing scam so everyones attention will go to the next iphone. apple are a sneaky bunch.

Guys don't be so naive apple is behind all of this is just another plan of he company to take all the attention of the world to keep there eyes only in the (new iphone).Honestly now do you really believe that a multi billion company that is so safe and secure in the past is going to loose their best device like this??? i don't thinks so just think about it and don't believe anything.Gizmodo is already working with Apple and they doing quit well until now everybody is talking about the new iphone plus that they show that a prototype was stolen really???? they just watching what the people will say about the new device nothing else thats the only way that they can ATTACK to the other companies because now everybody is coping them hello wake up :)
Mark my words the new IPHONE will be very different in so many ways either the look or the specs and it will make the same blast like when the 1st iphone appears on the market
Im a huge fan of Apple and the whole plan that they doing right now is perfect GOOD JOB STEVE :)))

And sir, what you have about Apple making up stories are speculations, not facts. The fact is, they have found an evidence strong enough to convince the court to grant a search warrant. Now that's a fact.
That engineer brought out the prototype for testing. I don't think going to a bar, getting wasted, and losing it was part of the plan. What poor judgement you have.

The most logical and practical thing to do is hand it to the bar manager because the owner of that phone would likely call the bar, not the police station. That is why some establishments have a "lost & found" section.

But if everyone is honest enough to surrender what they found to the right people, then life would be better to a lot of us. You asked how are you supposed to know who to surrender to. It's common sense my friend. You found the iphone at a bar, so you give it to the bar manager. Yes, this is not a perfect world full of corruption, but I'm glad that I still know the difference between right from wrong and that I would still choose what's right.
There was a search warrant. Don't tell me you don't know whar a search warrant is as well. A search warrant is granted by the court. A search warrant is not something that a court would give out casually. There needs to be a strong justification for them to grant it. They don't need to knock on your door once they have the warrant.

A journalist is only protected by law from disclosing who their sources are. Receiving stolen property, in this case the iphone, is against the law whether you are a journalist or not. It does not matter how the phone was lost, or who found it, it is the property of Apple and should have been returned. Taking what is not yours is stealing.
The editor of Gizmodo purchased and took possesion of property that was known to be stolen, and thats why the police paid him a visit. In California, receiving stolen property valued at over $400 is a felony. These are very serious charges that editor is facing, a year in prison plus fines as well as being a felon for the rest of his life.
Before all you simpletons start jumping up and down about fanboyism, I have NEVER, owned any Apple product. Android all the way.

Hence, Apple claimed it as a theft!
Furthermore, I am sure that the bar story is also another Apple's make up story as it doesn't want to claim it as a lost item.
After all, what engineer will bring a prototype soon to be released this year in a bar! Right, only an Apple employee can do that. LOL.

I see alot of people telling about morale and bla bla returning something you have found...well yes it's nice to give back..but i also think stupidity to lose something have a price.And if a find something how im i supozed to know that the agenty,police office,etc will turn the pbject to the owner?seriously this is not the perfect world and the corruption is everywhere.i must incline for both.
And of course if the phone was stolen that is diffrent and the justice must be done,and these things are don from the inside so they should punish the one that does that,but i do not agree to break in someones house without knowingfor sure he did toke it or not.

Why does he even have to call Apple when he could've just gave it to the bar manager. If someone left their iphone at a bar, where's the first place they would call to chect? Apple? I don't think so.
