Nokia teases us with some full-res N8 camera samples, we drool

27 April, 2010
There are so many things going around Nokia N8. In quite an unusual marketing move Nokia just published some "untouched" camera samples. Whoa! The camera on that thing is definitely a nice bit of kit...

Where's the kickstand and where's the lens cover ?
Why not have at least 32GB internal phone memory ?
Why not available in red as well as that sickly green ?
            Why so damned ugly ?
Is Symbian^3 really the answer or just another Finnish tragedy ?

the photos are extremely impressive. I do have a canon powershot and it doesn't provide the same depth and brilliance to the photos as the N8. It's kind of incredibly amazing that a cell phone camera is soon to replace my dedicated 350 Euro Canon powershot.

Anonymous, 28 Apr 2010I agree that 5 to 8 meg is all you really need on a phone b... moreIf you use digital zoom on camera the quality would be same as zooming in photo. Well maybe you could get alittle bit better because of autofocus (it will focuse better one part of her face). If you use zoom on takeing photo of landscape you would see no difference

NEVer, I mean NEVER use digital zoom. If you take photo zooming something with 12mp the quality is going to be like taking picture of that thing with 8 mp. Or just take photo without zoom and then zoom in picture - you will get same effect (and zoom means POOR quality). It would be very nice to see comparison to satio or other good camera phones. Besides the price is expected to be cheapest of all camera phones :)

[deleted post]you are completely missing the point. You actually NEED high MP count when all you have is a digital zoom. With a 6x optical zoom you need perhaps just 5 MP but with no optical zoom at all, you are grateful for any additional MP that the sensor provides. 12MP is optimal and having an ultra large sensor helps a lot with SNR and low light performance. Actually, the N8 has the potential to replace a dedicated digicam ad this is truly unique in the mobile market. Excellent job, Nokia!!

Yes I agree with below comment..
we need the camera that can still produce smooth pictures even if you zoom the object few times!

I don't know if MP has anything to do with it?
if it's so, then how many MP required at least..? 12MP?

Nokia has gone to wrong direction. High megapixel does not attract buyers, as what happens to Sony Ericsson phones. Nokia should lower the MPX to reduce the cost or move the cost to better proc/memory/screen.

[deleted post]I agree that 5 to 8 meg is all you really need on a phone but when you zoom the higher the meg the better the quality.Just zoom up on those test photos on your computer screen and see how clear the girls face is.Now imagine how clear that will look zoomed up on a cell phone.
