sorry for being naive, but exactly what are the major differences between this so called "new" phone vs. the whatever 5xxx phones released by the same company in the past 2 years other than the cam?
Don't tell me is the pricetag, because one can easily lower the pricetag of older models with similar / more features.

SE changed the name of x3 to x10 because people maybe mistake SE x3 and NOKIA x3
but nokia make a phone with the name of X2 because NOKIA wants that people mistake SE X2 and NOKIA X2!

This phone is much better then SE x2. It will not crash and has a great camera! Not to mention it is cheaper!!!

hxs, 29 Apr 2010i guess most of the guys here are advanced users or people ... moreyour opinion on phones is kind of weird. I have a huge collection of phones and my brother who hates gadgets only have a basic phone. But he makes alot more money then I do. Your opinion on how much a person makes relates to what kind of phone the person should have have is irrelevant.

i guess most of the guys here are advanced users or people who can afford costlier phones.. what nokia is trying here is to provide phones for the billions of people whose average income is obviously lower than most of the guys here but still get quality features & a great looking device... yea i agree nokia s60 touch is bad compared to google or apple but S40 works like a charm within the masses... it is one of the stable UI with lot of good features... did u guys forget the good old slim nokia 6300 which reallly did welll...

well seriously i do think nokia should completely drop out the s40 platform. it is literally the most useless UI in 2010. symbian may not have shown much change since the 7650 came out over 6 or 7 years ago, but it is better then s40.
i used to love these midrange nokia phones. i myself have had a 5300 from 3 years back and it still works. but now the time have changed and am using two s60 phones. i have an e71 which is a much better alternative to the high priced blackberrys and a n82 as my backup phone. for my music, i am proud to say that ipods are the best music players in the market.
one thing that really bugs me about nokia is why do they take literally ages to respond to the market. well andriod has shown much success with many phone companies are slowly reviving such as motorola. nokia should have bought palm to create a modern mobile os. design wise, nokia seems to fail lately. with designs like that, im sorry but im afraid ill have to switch to HTC.
all of teh above is from my very own opinion.
keep on trying nokia as you are the leading cellphone makers. improve it and dont let other firms kick you out. cheers.

Now, this time nokia has understood smartness like sonyerricson, this time they have made very slim phone. we can just hope this time nokia will make this device chipper. and bunch of sufficient accessories.

Many of you people (teens/preteens?) here don't have a clue about commerce or business. Selling lots of phones, especially cheap phones is very profitable for a company. It's likely that atleast 90% of nokia 1100 users (millions and millions) in the developing countries will buy another nokia albeit a cheap one.

Again nice move by nokia. There are the bread and butter of nokia. Will sell millions and expand their fanbase or atleast its users.

Sometimes I don't bother to read the comments because of the foolish talk from some of you.
While some post read-worthy comments, comments like yours shows that it should be against the law for people like you to post a comment. You are going to ask what is the point of producing this type of phone, the point is it's affordable so people who always wanted a Xpress Music phone or people who always wanted a 5MP camera can now get one without it costing an arm and a leg. It doesn't have Wi-Fi and GPS...and I didn't expect it to, it's a budget phone hence the exclusion of wi-fi and GPS. I was surprised that it packs a 5MP camera for a budget phone whether it has auto-focus or not. If you seek to comment on high end features then stick to the E or N series forums.

S40 ? no thanks.. IMHO nokia should stop that stupid platform, i mean it.. At least they make the S60 as a standard platform for all nokias,
but no problem about the material, seems good with the alumunium form..
