This didn't age well. Guess what? I'm from the future.
And LG stopped using removable battery within the next year's model itself (the G6). Such a shame. I love removable batteries....

It's easy to waterproof a small opening like a headphone jack or a us connector but a battery is such a large space to guarantee a lasting secure seal.

Next to the $500 that you probably paid already does not sound like a big deal. Especially since it ensures that your phone won't be trashed after a year of heavy use (batteries tend to lose charge under heavy stress, but if you have two batteries you distribute the stress).

First of all, a battery is a lot easier to carry around than a rapid charger and microUSB cable (or portable charger). Most people wouldn't even notice the battery in their jeans pocket (even tight jeans). If it's cold enough for a coat, non-issue. If you carry a purse or a backpack, non-issue.
Second of all, you don't need to have the battery on you at all times to make it convenient. Haven't you ever forgotten to plug your phone in at night, only to wake up in the morning and find that your phone is dead or nearly dead? Sure, with a rapid charger you can get 50% before you leave for work. But with a spare battery on the wall-charger, you can get 100% instantly AND listen to music while you shower (with bluetooth, WiFi and everything).
Do I even need to mention working overtime, vacations, day-trips, or that just having a spare battery in your car is WAY more convenient than plugging your phone in ANYWHERE? There are literally dozens of cases where having a spare battery is more useful than not having one. There are no cases where not having one is more useful than having one. Does that makes sense to you?

Removable batteries are so convenient, it seems preposterous that no company (until, perhaps, LG with the LG G5) has found a way to make hot-swapping them as easy as plugging a phone into a charger.
And no, Samsung, fast-charging tech isn't the answer. Time isn't only thing working against you when your battery is low. There's also something called ACCESS. People don't want to carry a fast-charger and cable around with them, nor do they want to have to find an electrical outlet in public spaces.
I owned the Galaxy S1, S2, S3, Note 3, Note 4, and very briefly, the S6. I'm writing this comment on a Samsung laptop and I also own a Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2, so I think it's safe to say I've been a loyal Samsung fan up to this point. That loyalty ended with the Galaxy S6. I parted ways with my S6 in less than 2 weeks, disgusted by the battery life, heat issues, and lack of expandable storage (my 5 largest games alone need 12GB of storage).
My son got an LG G4 a couple of months ago, and I have to say I'm really impressed by it. LG managed to make a 5.5" phone that's compact, stylish (love the leather covers. hope LG sticks with them), and packed full of PRACTICAL features like... drum roll... a removable battery and microSD expansion. If the SD 820-powered G5 wasn't just around the corner, I'd have gotten the G4 for myself already.
Remember when Samsung made fun of Apple's wall-huggers? Well, apparently the joke was on Samsung loyalists, because that's exactly what Samsung expects you to be now (except Samsung wants you to feel good knowing you'll only have to hang out in the mall bathroom with your phone plugged in for 10 minutes instead of 30. THANKS SAMSUNG!!)
If LG keeps the removable battery and expandable storage, they have a new loyal LG user. Me. See ya, Samsung.
