LG hints its G5 will have a removable battery while poking fun at Samsung

29 January, 2016
Many users were upset when Samsung decided to discontinue a removable battery design and we hope LG does not go the same direction as Samsung as LG is one of the few phone makers that still design its smartphones with hot-swappable battery.

Just wish the LG G5 also had AMOLED display.

AnonD-385537, 01 Feb 2016Are these unofficial double capacity batteries safe? As I'v... moreEven iPhones have the rare tendency of exploding. Any batteries have the same fate. Same worries on portable powerbanks. Even OEM batteries have the tendency to bulge after some time. That's even why it's good to inspect for that from time to time for those bulges like in the case of my former Note 2 batteries after some 2 years - this is one of the reasons why I always choose a removable battery over a sealed type:

      http://www.flickr.com/photos/92800985@N06/shares/458680

And I take precautions in dealing with batteries being charged properly:
*Charge batteries through a cradle charger as much as possible.
*Never leave my phone charging the battery beyond when it hits 100%.
*Never ever do heavy tasks, or making calls while charging the phone.
*Never charge while your phone is in your pocket and moving about.
*I plug the charger to an anti-power surge connection.
*Use a power timer to cut the power at a certain number of hours.

As i write this, my extended battery has 56% from running since 12 hours ago, with 7 hours of screen on usage with mostly browsing and reading an e-book with notifications on.

      http://www.flickr.com/photos/92800985@N06/shares/bxW5qr

It's still adjusting to the gauging of the battery, as it goes down fast from 100% to 75% in the first 3 hours and maintains that 75% for another 3 hours, before it starts normal gauging in percentage. It's still only been 4 days since I've been using it. It can probably hit more than 24 hours with some 12 hours screen on usage time.

It does not overheat. It's proportioned to my original battery - meaning it should be within 10-15% after 12 hours, but this thing is giving me more screen on usage than I had with the original battery! Heavy LTE/internet would give me around 15-16 hours for the extended battery.

Truth remains, sealed phones are so archaic and a throwback to a day where you were afraid if your phone will not make the day. So you were making careful use of your dumbphone.

With Note 4 I can play gAmes for hours even if I am having a meeting later in the day.... No worries , a spare is waiting for me. Bam, instant 100% for the meeting so that to keep notes, read from my phone...

Srsly, swappable battery is like the greatest invention regarding phones. Better than touchscreens (what good is a touch screen with the phone dead), better than fast charging (I call it slow charging, 90 minutes? Pluuuease), better than mobile cameras (again, a dead camera is a useless camera).

It's basically what makes a phone smart. Without them they're dumb bricks (you are afraid to use them properly cause you want them to make the day). Sealed phones are 2015's dumbphones.

It just cost $9 each. I bought two to cycle so their ability to hold power will last longer. With micro USB 3.0 on my Note 3, my charging time is actually 1.8 times faster. I can charge the spent one on a cradle charger at home:

For example you can unlearn eating at McDonalds because it's bad for your health, but unlearning eating altogether is silly. A removable battery is a *need* to many.

They don't want their phones to become a paperweight, they don't want to have to charge, they don't want to get in a position of having no battery during particularly stressful/eventful days... A spare is a life-saver, I'm not even kidding, it can literally save your life, especially in cases of an accident in the country.

I get you.... moreI must admit I'm kind of a hypocrite myself because when the s6/edge first came out I was quite vocal of my disappointment that it was devoid of removable battery and sd card and vowed never get one but that display and optional vr headset sold me. The handset has gotten really cheap in my country and I think it's well worth the trade off but not everyone. I'm not trying to force feed anyone but sometimes when there's not the option you just learn to live without it.

Double-capacity I got was less than $10. As a heavy user, I dint have to mind turning off data or any power saving mode. I don't have to swap.

iPhone users' number 1 problem - battery power. Apple even came out with an external power pack. The punt is, sealed batteries are poor implementation in an era where your device performs many tasks. Yes, you can still turn them off. However, heavy users like me use up to 8 GB data in a day. Why would I be reduced to carrying a powerbank or keep plugging to power outlets in the waking hours?

But that's the impression I got.its commendable that lg still has the removable battery and sd card but is it really benefiting them. Is everyone saying horray lg has a removable battery I'm buying one for sure? Removable batteries are great but it isn't like if you have a sealed battery you have to pay a technician to change it every month. They can last a couple years. I understand your point but I'm willing to risk it.
