If you just put Windows 10 Mobile on the Idol 4 you'd have a great midrange phone with Continuum. It's ready with a Snapdragon 617. I know a bunch of Windows fans looking for one like this.

AJ_74, 03 Feb 2016I disagree, whole-heartedly. Qlualcomm doesn't solely make ... moreHmm, good points but I disagree again. I agree that SD 652 is powerful enough on the CPU front for QHD displays, but it's GPU is weak for QHD resolution. Another point - why would you want QHD on a midrange priced phone? Why not put FHD display and get the performance/battery life benefits rather than take performance/battery life penalty on a mid-range budget device?

I thought Android devices are moving forward on performance front, with better chipsets in 2016 with same resolution in their respective price bands (HD for low-end, FHD for mid-range, QHD for high-end). With QHD coming into mid-range, we won't see performance improvements, also won't see significant improvement in display quality as well since it won't be that visible to end-users. Just my 2 cents on this.

Interesting these phones. Well equipped componente electronics environments on the heel, and have a beautiful figure. Congratulations.

It makes several chipsets that support QHD, including the Snapdragon 801 (LG G3), 805 (Nexus 6), 808 (LG G4 and BB Priv), and the 810 (too many QHD phones to list).

The SD652 is more powerful than all of them. It has the same number of A72 cores as the SD820 (just clocked lower) and an inferior (but still powerful) GPU. If the OT Idol 4 is of this same quality as the OTI 3 was and carries a similalry low pricetag, Alcatel has a real winner on their hands.

I have this phone on my list to replace my aging OPO.

Have anyone noticed the Alacatel Idol series, they've been keeping up with the Galaxy line series. If you notice this resembles galaxy s6.
Previously Idol x plus looked similar to S4

Oh, how the world of Andriod is becoming the "Next Big Thing" with so many good devices being released this year, who will not own a Great performing devices. I am a flagship type of guy and I must admit, I want the Idol 4s!!!!! So props to Idol. I will be glad to hold this new "flagship" even if it does not support USB-c or a Fingerprint sensor.

Otherwise, it will be just another Android device. (which no sane person would buy)

For QHD display powered devices, Qualcomm is manufacturing SD 820. Why can't Alcatel use that, if that is their flagship? If it is going to be a mid-ranger, why put QHD display and cripple the device on performance and battery life? FHD would have made it a perfect device.

What's the crack with that SoC and QHD screen? I think a 1080p would have been the better option for performance and of course battery life. Still, good looking devices that won't reach the UK until they're irrelevant like the Idol 3 phones.

I own the 4.7 inch version of Idol 3 and overall so far I'm very satisfied by it. The screen is good, battery life is rather good (it lasts me a whole day of moderate to heavy usage), the audio quality is fine (an important things), I love the stereo speakers when watching videos late at night in bed, the only aspect it should be improved (imho) is the camera. Not to mention that the price of purchase (~ 100 euro in my country) is very appealing.
