If this "always on" feature is implementing a hybrid lcd/e-ink display then it is a great thing indeed. "Always on" display btw is the main line in Yotaphone sales pitch.

AnonD-343658, 11 Feb 2016Sorry to say lg never used amoled on their phone...rather t... moreUmm dunno how to put this to you but sorry you have no clue about OLED technology. OLED is Organic light emitting diode. The matrix that controls pixels can be active or passive, Active Matrix ("AM"OLED) is important when you want conserve as much power as possible during operation plus an active matrix helps to achieve higher refresh rates for the panel which is why AMOLEDs are preferred over PMOLEDs. Passive matrix control panel tech is now outdated.

Super AMOLED or SAMOLED that Samsung markets is just a marketing term they use because they integrated the digitizer with the panel. Anyone else doing the same thing will market it under a different name.

P-OLED or Plastic OLEDs are also using Active matrix for direct pixel control, it is just that the substrate is designed to be far more flexible . P-OLEDs are AMOLEDs on flexible substrates. You can make PMOLEDs on plastic substrates as well but like I said passive matrix tech is now long outdated.

And not going to change it until another one-hand managable 4.7" at most phone comes. While feeding the the big ones you should also take care of your Mini (real) users. After 4.7" it is not mini anymore....

Actually the author is wrong in saying that this will be the first time in a phone seeing a notification always on.Ive got a nokia 1520 and it has a glance screen function that can be set to stay always on. It is actually an old thing...

dayjin, 10 Feb 2016LG can't use AMOLED, but OLED screens !"AMOLED" is just a Samsung marketing term, plenty of companies have their own patents on OLED tech. if LG wishes to use it they can and it will be called another name for marketing purposes.

I am happy if the g5 comes equipped with an oled (p-oled ?) screen !
The contrast of the super amoled plus screen on my galaxy is great. Hope the g5 has enough brightness so it can be read under sunlight.

Anonymous, 10 Feb 2016Haven't seen any burn-in effects on my amoled screen in 1.5... moreYou might wanna look more closely again. I know of a demo S6 edge that got those horrible burns in only under two months. Worse is that it's very visible even in bright light. :/

Anyhow, good for you that your phone is suffering from burn-ins yet. Still, I'd stick with an LCD because I only replace my phone after 3 years.

                                        Cheers!
