Engineer Man, 14 May 2010It depends on peoples choices, what they want in a phone. F... moreI respect your desired specs on a phone. It's pretty high. Too high that it makes me wonder what you do with your phone. Although I don't think that it's farfetched, it just boggles my mind why someone must have all of those features in a phone. For me, I think those features would be nice to have as long as it would not cause my phone to freeze up or lag. Oh well, I guess we all use our phones differently.

It depends on peoples choices, what they want in a phone. For me the new iphone would have to have a good high quality camera, lens , ccd, it would have to have at least a Amoled with 800x480. 720P Hd video recorder. Working Bluetooth, wireless b,g,n wifi module. Obviously the software in terms of UI with widget homescreen, 3d UI, multitasking, 1000mhz cpu, more thsn 256mb ram, rom, lots of internal hdd space. Multi gesture input like on symbian 3, android. It needs to be able to seamlessly play flash content or display any html, xhtml, youtube, iplayer, etc... This would be my choice, that descision is made by technology inside, but obviously the os platform has got to support apps & have good multitasking, good speed it's also got to give the user the experience thatthry are looking for. For samsung, nokia, the app store will expand. If the new iphone possess all the technology & featured i'm looking for, i will buy it.

I've never bought an apple Iphone for a few reasons. Their hardware tightly locked down or sealed, like the software. Nothing is as configurable like PC platform, it's very limited with what the end user can do with hardware, software being closed source. The Iphone just doesn't have the right latest built-in technology for me. But the new Iphone 4G might change that. Also i like to use java, flash, without any probs. I heard some apple users couldn't get iphone working with sms or email or something. Don't like sealed battery devices either no matter what it is. For me it has to tick the right boxes of what i'm looking for in my next mob. That next mob will be samsung high end phone, or nokia or htc.

daveyg, 14 May 2010The fact of the matter is Apple sell on user experience not... moreSee a number of iPhone users do know its limitations but but buy the phone due to the user satisfaction it gives. You summed it up very well, moving around the iPhone is very good and people with even minimum smartphone experience will find it easy on the iPhone. Before I got the iPhone I knew its limitations but then I weighed up the pros and cons. I found that the features it lacked - such bluetooth compatibility, no Dvix, no flash, etc.. - werent going to be features I greatly missed as iPhone more than made up for it in other ways. My previous Smartphone was a Samsung H1, which was feature packed and more than matched the iPhone in specs, but it let me down as an overal phone.
But I really liked what you said in general! See this is what im talking about, constructive critism, debateful comments, not silly hatefull comments.

The fact of the matter is Apple sell on user experience not features. Anyone who reads up on tech knows that all Apple products have limitations, some glaringly obvious, some more subtle. Many also realise the Apple drip feed feature through their yearly product updates while other brands try to pack everything into their latest release to win product share - Apple don't need to. I'm sure Steve Jobs has a big folder of features and a year pencilled in against when he will introduce them (multitasking anyone!).
Apple has created a new identity for itself based on ease of use as the main appeal. Most people I know with iPhones would never have dreamed of having a complex smartphone until the iPhone came out.
You can be shown an iPhone in a shop and instantly understand how it works and find your way about. Having used S60 & WM in my opinion the same is not true for these platforms.
You get the feeling all the suing is sour grapes, as try as they might other brands struggle to make an impact when they know their products are superior to the iPhone on paper.
I also sense many people get very frustrated with Apple lovers. The reality is people who understand the limitations are never going to buy one because they understand the limitations. Most Apple users love them because they do what they want and give a great experience. That intangible feeling of using an Apple product is very difficult to get across in a product comparison review.
I own an iPod classic. I know on paper it’s not the best but it was well priced and I liked the simplicity of the experience (iPod & itunes). Would I buy an iPhone - no. They are massively overpriced in the UK for something superseded by other brand's products. Would I have one if someone gave me one for free - of course.
Would I buy an HTC - not sure. Had an old one and it was falling apart after 12 months. Are the new ones reliable I hope so but haven't owned one to comment.
Is the brand bashing sad – yes.
Will it stop? – Unlikely not while the internet crusaders feel there are people to be converted either to or away from Apple.
