In short , everybody wants crazy lengthy battery life , instant recharges and a deathless phone. It's all done by a well made removable scheme.
Removable battery is probably the most important thing in the history of phones. It's like the invention of transistors, only better.

Anonymous, 19 Feb 2016Sliding battery from the bottom of the phone doesn't sound ... moreThankfully removable batt implies that you don't need a crazy large capacity. Just carry a spare and you're there (a spare literally doubles a phone's capacity).
The issue is different: when you replace the battery the phone should remain on. You can do that by having a tiny secondary battery to operate the phone when the swap happens.
That will make the swap seamless (no powering down/on) and easy (the LG mechanism makes it easy).
Removable battery is everything.
1) Instant charge (just pop in a spare). Faaar faster than quick charge.
2) Extra charge (carry a spare). Faaar smaller and easier to carry than a power bank
3) Extra longevity (when you battery inadvertently dies you don't buy a new phone or cripple it by opening it).

I was hell bent on getting a G5 until I saw the final design and the read the "ticker" confirmation. The ticker is a gimmick that wastes valuable space better spent on a bigger main display, not to mention the battery, CPU, and RAM it's going to waste.

I have a feeling this magic slot will be a collab with Nintendo gaming on mobile phones! (G5 only) in addition to all other stuff being made for it (audio etc..)

I can't help but feel this will be an epic fail for LG. Not because I don't like the concept, I really love it and I think it's a very brave move to try and stand out. And if the implementation is right it could add some serious usefulness to a minority of users. However, when I'm shelling out so much for a flagship phone I want it to be damn near perfect, not some science experiment in progress. If they'd introduced this to a mid range phone where it wouldn't matter so much if that science project fails I think people would be more inclined to take a gamble, but people don't like taking risks when they're parting with so much cash.. They want something that looks cool, does everything fast and with a certain style. In my opinion this is not it. The back of the phone is ugly, the screen is smaller than last years (the G4 had a much bigger screen without looking barely bigger than its rivals) and while looking great as a concept this expansion slot is mostly going to appeal to a small minority and not the mass market LG is supposed to be trying to chase.
Time will tell I suppose..

KING, 19 Feb 2016Samsung S4 Zoom.Lol. It does have same concept. S4 Zoom sliding battery is nice too. But they didn't do it with other model. It was too thick to implement back then. The idea is to make thinner phone with sliding battery. Anyway, LG unintentionally copied S4 Zoom. But, still G5 is better.
