It shows only 300 or wathever ram because you are running android 2.1 eclair, and this os does not support 512 ram. The next update wich is due in octomber 2.2 Froyo will read and acces all of your 512 ram. :D

Just to let you know, I have just received my new Samsung Galaxy S (what an amazing phone by the way, far better looking in the flesh than on the web and runs silky smooth...) The videos and screen are second to none...
BUT
it only has 256MB RAM - definitely.

I have recieved the phone , impressed with the display but found its lags when mutliple apps are opened and also dont like to text font in emails, sms, web - there fonts are not smooth but look pixellated .
One major concern which i would like gsm arena to take up or query as its just not me but other users and thats the ram , yes its only showing 256 and thats the reason for the lags , Now are these handsets sold in uk are not the final versions or has there been some software issues from samsung, either way its against consumer law and we need to know if we have been mislead or been sold products not fit for sale in the UK, i Would appreciate if GSMARENA can shed some light or put us to the right
direction.
Thanks

http://picasaweb.google.com/zhynite/GalaxyS256mbRamNot512mb#
thought samsung confirmed 512mb of ram will be onboard the galaxy s?
does this mean my unit is a pre-release version?
any ideas?
tnx

himu, 26 May 2010hey...well I dont understand the question, as the phone has... morehe is asking whether samsung will provide official updates for the Galaxy S when it is released. Because in the past, Samsung have not provided updates for certain handsets like the Omnia or Omnia HD.. and when they do provide updates, it's only like once or twice a year.. People always want to have the latest and greatest software running on their phones, so if Samsung don't constantly update, people are not going to be happy with it. But I for one find Samsung's official software and upgrades to be outdated and slow (developers such as XDA-dev can cook up ROMS and stuff much faster than samsung can, and release on a regular basis). So I don't really find it a problem anyway, when Galaxy S is released, it'll prob get support from sites like XDA and people there will cook up upgrades and stuff for it, which will be better than watever samsung can whip up, so no worries there guys.
