Samsung and LG made and EXCELLENT choice to ignore Adoptable Storage for their high-end devices.

For a detailed explanation complete with references to an examination of Internal vs. Portable storage see:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/49blo3/weighing_in_on_samsungs_external_sd_card_strategy/

In summary, Adoptable Storage does NOT do what users think it does - most notably the new "Internal" mode actually deprives you direct access (via file manager etc.) to the real physical internal storage. This means it makes no sense to use "Internal" mode for high-end devices (where you have paid for the expensive and fast real internal storage).

I rather have the adoptable storage for Sd Card, as there is other way to move files. Bluetooth, Flash disk with micro usb port, Samsung Smart Switch, Plug in to your PC, I don't recommend cloud (I'll pass on this)

Steve Max, 25 Feb 2016Has anyone here ever used Marshmallow? When you insert an S... morethe same user would then crib that the phone runs slower. Without remembering it was their own choice to select adaptable storage.
A lot of us here know the issues we'd face with adaptable storage. But a lot many outside would not. And would simply curse LG or Samsung.

No storage problem for game, u can use FOLDER MOUNT to move & to keep OBB files of your large game in sd card.No problem & difference. Root requires to use app.

Smart thinking by both companies actually.

Adoptable storage is NOT mandatory. You still have the option to use the SD card as a normal SD card. Marshmallow gives you pop ups when you begin the formatting process to let you know exactly what you cannot do. Removing this feature is completely asinine especially being that 32gb is the ONLY option for the app-installable portion of the phone. I know the overwhelming majority of users couldn't care less, but there is a portion of the market that would have loved to have this feature...or models with storage higher than 32gb.

Here's a video of the process of formatting the sd card: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOhBjbKJjXI

I updated my android one to marshmallow, some how sd card got corrupted after updating. Was hoping for a recovery to on a pc. Then while game installation my kids formatted sd card and activate this stuff for space. Now pc doesn't recognize this as a sd card lost all photos in it. Thanks Google. Kudus to samsung and lg for not opting for this stuff.

At least this is good news. Hope Google drops adaptive storage for such slow and not too durable media as sd cards.

It used to be very simple. Insert a card and an app ASKS upon install where it wants to be installed. It worked great on the old phones with Symbian and Windows Mobile of the past. ANd even older Android variants had no problems with installs done on sd-card. But why Google and handset-manufacturers suddenly makes it so goddamn complicated is beyond me?

And this has nothing to do with users being stupid. It's more the unwillingness of corporations to let us store whatever we want wherever we want, so that we'll end up buying increasingly more expensive devices. The Galaxy S-series has gone downhill from the S5 with less and less features and a higher price tag with each successive version.

Soon the home-screens will be gone too... and at this rate we'll end up getting a phone that has a idiotic big screen with a ridiculous resolution and giga-core cpu, multi-gigabytes ram that can barely make calls and text :-(

But hey, pressing numbers on that dial-pad is done with 5D-force-feedback... DOH!

One would think they'd include it, and make it optional. "SD card inserted. Would you like Android to adopt it? (short info about what it means) YES|NO"

Windows Phone have been using adoptable storage for long. Phone sdcard can only be read by phone itself.

Why this such a problem with Android?

Both of those phones have 32gb internal storage, ussually only 28-29 are readable. The system holds about 8-11gb and needs 25% of the internal memory free, before it becomes working slower. So we are talking about 11-14gb left to use for games and apps.
A flagship owner is likely to play demanding games like real racing 3, which occupy from 1.5-2.5gb. One can only have 5-7 such games and hundreds of 50-500mb apps before it is required of him to start unistalling apps. Of course those 2 flagahips aim to performance and using adopted memory would compromise that, but they could find a way to allow it and he less restrictive for own good. I would like to see an option to install apps like +2gb anatomy atlas and +2gb of maps from some gps apps on the sd and keep only the high performance apps on the internal storage.

Even better would be to give the option of Samsung method of handling SD cards PLUS the vanilla android method. Decent microSD cards wont impact phone performance much and if you stick a SD into a nexus device you do get pre-warned of the wipe....
