I blame this on google. They do a lot of bad choices when it comes to android.
Google removed the support for installing apps on microSD card.
Then some years later, they introduce this.
I would rather have the 1st option back.
The way it used to be, you could still transfer files from your microSD card by inserting it in other devices.
You could still back up your images and videos, if the phone died, microSD cards usually does better even in water than phones, so even if the device was water damages, there was still a chance.
And since you chose what apps you wanted to move to the microSD-card, you could make sure not to move your most important apps, in case of a memorycard fail, and you could make sure to only move apps that did not need the best performance.
Sure adoptable storage is probably a bit quicker than the old option.
But in modern phones, the internal memory is still in percentage much faster than internal memory used to be over microSD card speeds, back when we could move apps.
So an app on the microSD card with adoptable storage would be in percentage losing more performance than it used to, when we could simply move apps.
Some makes kept the movin app feature, but not a lot of apps kept the support, because of Google.
Enabling adoptable storage requires a deeper understanding, that most buyers wont have.
You have to understand that it will effect the performance, since microSD card read/writes speeds are lower than the reed/write speeds of internal storage, even if you buy the fastest card on the market (the reader in the phone would be slower than that microSD card).
You wont be able to transfer files by moving the microSD card, not to computers and not to other phones.
You wont be able to use it as a back-up.
If the device breaks, all your data will be lost.
If samsung and lg left the option in, but it required some special command, that command would be posted in newpapers and there would be no way to make sure the users would understand what they were doing.
I do think that this is the best way.
Google should have come up with a better solution.
A way to make some folders readable by other devices (photos, videos, documents, and other folders user might want to back up).
Sure, at the price of the S7 devices, you could perhaps expect more storage. What about using two drives, one for the OS (with room for future updates) and one for user storage. That way they would not have to include a 64GB module, but users would get access to most of the 32GB drive.
But as it now comes with a microSD-card reader, it will not be an issue for most.
I would like an automatic back-up of files included. So that you can use the fast internal storage when taking pictures and recording video, to make sure there is no lag or performance issues due to the lower write speeds of the microSD card. But then when you leave the camera app, those files will be moved to the microSD, so they will be backed up in case anything happens to the device.

Smart move, it would make the phone slower.
Google never gets it, either they won't let you write to external SD or they're going to let you write ceaselessly. A middle ground should be found. In android's case, internal memory is for apps/os , external for data (photos, music, media files, documents)

Good decision by Samsung and LG because the adoptable storage feature in theory would reduce the device speed and also from my little experience with using raid 0 storage there is a very good chance of data getting corrupt.
But at least there should have been an option for people that want to try it out.

Has anyone here ever used Marshmallow? When you insert an SD card, it's set up as regular mass storage, and you get a notification icon saying you can set it up. When you click that icon, you get two options: use as regular mass storage (the default) or format as internal storage, stating that you will lose any data in the card when you do so and that anything you put in the card after formatting will not be usable in other devices. If you don't click the notification, it will go away and you will keep using the card exactly like you did under Lollipop. You only enable it if you WANT to enable it.
If they want to discourage the usage as adoptable storage, they should just remove that notification and keep the option only inside the settings --> storage three dot menu. That would hide it from unknowing users, make the card work as expected for everybody, and keep the option for whoever feels the increased storage is worth it. Everybody wins.

The customer's choice on this should be respected.

Seriously, why are people happy with this decision? It's not like the device would force you to use it as adopted storage, you do have the choice of still using it the old fashioned way as well. All Samsung and LG are doing is preventing you from making your own decisions.

Well done Samsung :) shows they are thinking about the end user. I take a lot of good photos when out cycling so I want the best camera phone there is, imagine loosing all of them if i took the memory card out? Would be good to have the option but by default it should be set to normal SD so user data does not get wiped by accident.

Thank you Samsung! That's exactly how I use my SD card. I have all my music, photos, videos, movies and any other types of files on my SD card, move them from phone to phone and keep phone internal storage for apps only. Backup to cloud? Yes, but having those files locally is so handy, no need to rely on network, doesn't drain my battery when I use them.

"Adoptable Storage" is a really good option for emerging markets and should be supported. It allows those with devices with only 4-8GB of onboard storage to make the most out of their devices. Samsung and LG should allow the customers to choose. There are multiple ways to do this
1, Dual SD card support(One for internal disk expansion and the other for file transfers)
2, Single SD card + USB Host support on all devices(This ensures that file transfers are still possible using USB sticks)
3, Keep standard Single SD card support and allow customers decide what they want to do with their SD cards(Wireless file transfers is already possible via many apps)
