I agree. I use microSD card for photos, so in an event of phone failure, I can just take out the card and copy the images easily and safely. I don't have enough of data plan to use a cloud to backup every photo right after it's captured.

Samsung have made the right and only choice here, the millions of users they have overwhelmingly consist of the average joe, just like every other manufacturer, and real power users can enable this without rooting, its there on xda developers.
Put your sd card in your new samsung phone and, ya know, it just works.

Is it necessary to use adoptive storage in Marshmallow? If not then it should be up to the user whether he/she wants to adopt external storage. They should put stringer, more informative pop-ups when the user tries to adopt a storage, so they know what it is if they didn't before. If it is necessary, Google should change this in a future update. Maybe 6.1.0

This time LG and Samsung are right.
Google is losing the ability to judge things as used in 99% of all deviced.

How about setting mass storage as the default and only visible option, but then allowing users to enable adoptable storage from the hidden developer settings?

Why not give power users the choice?

But in Android eco system (and especially in Samsung world where every single and simple item is released slowly one by one like a torture) I don't think such a simple solution will be offered so early in 2016. Maybe in Android 8-9 or even 10. :)

1st partition with ext4 format for android system private use (safer because it will be hidden/unaccesible on windows OS), 2nd with FAT32/NTFS for file storage/transfer.
with the amount of $$ samsung have, it'll be possible to do this much better than random programmer do

also, fastest UHS-II now reached 300MB/s read and 100MB/s write

Android OS + touchwiz is 15GB so you will only have 17GB to play with for your apps thats it

Moto X / M8 and other phones are already using this feature and they are simply giving you an OPTION whether to use it or not

Adoptable storage id meant for budget phone in developing country. These phone usually have only 4-8gb internal storage. It make more sense. Btw, for those arguing wanting this features, do you realized is is completely unrecommendable to remove the sd card after inserting it as adoptable storage. It automatically became a permanent storage. More or less an unremovable sd card. Taking it out physically may cause consequences. Your risk to take.
