Leica is good for Huawei. But is Huawei good for Leica? These phones are still a no-no to me. It is still a china phone after all.

Hope that upon Huawei's implementation of Leica to their smartphones, these wouldn't double the price. Leica is known yes, to have really superior quality but they also always over price their cameras. Seriously OverPrice their cameras.

So basically a way to price up their products by slapping a Leica brand.

To me, premium price = support, and so far, none of the Android OEMs deliver regardless of their prices. If you cannot guarantee security updates on your phone to match the industry standard (at least on par with Google Nexus in terms of updates, and Apple in terms of support coverage), then you are not worth the premium price in my book.

I love my Huawei Ascend Mate2, almost 2 years old now.
What I hate to see, is Huawei go all "iphone/samsung" with their prices.
I was hoping they would step it up with the mid range market.
My phone is fast, takes pretty darn good photos, amazing battery.
I love it, but I'm not paying 700-1000 dollars for a stupid phone, I'll look elsewhere
when it comes time to replace my Mate2.

Just for the brand and for the price.. Nokia copied sony so used zeiss too.. And at the end of the day, again it only leads to end user behavior.. Always it is up to end user how he react. And there are many naive ppl.. So this is how the business works..
But you never mentioned this in other brands.. That is marketing.. You only highlighting it bcos huawei did it..

With Nexus 6P they got the ball in their court, with leica they wanna build a game changer. Recently moving to US market, So reloading upto Their standards with leica.
I think they will also launch Qualcomm versions of their future flagships just like samsung.

It seems to me that huawei is going premium with its flagships soon, and by premium i mean samsung and apple premium or atleast close. Their build quality is already premium with mate series , then chipset became premium with 14nm 950 kirin in mate 8. Now it is time to make the camera premium.

Don't underplay Huawei, they are a major force to be reckoned in the operator side (RAN equipment). Now they are moving "up-market" in the consumer side of things, the Mate 8 was a good appetizer, this deal carries that momentum which tells us something truly magic is coming from Huawei sooner or later.
