Microsoft cans Project Astoria for porting Android apps to Windows

26 February, 2016
ast year at the Build conference, Microsoft announced what was called Project Astoria, a bridge that will allow developers to port their existing Android apps easily to Windows 10. The feature eventually disappeared from Windows 10 builds that came out after that, which caused some people to wonder what was happening with the feature. Microsoft has now confirmed that it will no longer be working on that.

Well, if they want to prioritize, it makes sense to focus on one rather than two, and Microsoft picked iOS bridge. I mean it makes total sense. Most apps will be available for both platforms anyway (iOS and Android), so why bother trying to bridge both? Just one would be enough.

Question is, will this work? Or will it be too late?

Of course it is easier for me to install the my banking app on my tablet and use it's features. But when I checked the permission details for the app it wants more than what is required. Why a banking app need to read my contact details, why does it need my location and etc etc.

It's not only with the banking app most apps do this kind of thing.

I was using an app (not going to say the name) that is available on both platforms, I used it in my windows phone. When I just browsing my contacts with that app it was suggesting me some people. And suddenly it suggested a friends wife. I was shocked and realized it would do the same for contacts in my phone. If you know Tamil this kind of thing is generally referred as “MAAMAA VELA” or “KOOTTI KUDUKKURA VELA”.

Apps can ask the permission to use our personal details to function. But they don't have right to read or use any other persons contact details with or without our permission. And we don't have the right to give permission because they are not our contact details, it belongs to someone else.

I'm okay with this. There is more quality apps on iOS then Android anyway, and companies still choose to build for iOS like it's the only show in town.

Im gonna buy new android or iphone.but the matter is no one like to buy my windows phone.
It should be in garbage within next couple of days.
Sad about microsoft, they can't even encourage developers to bring their apps to WP 10.
If google blocking their services on windows phone, just block google services on windows pc thats it.
