Nokia N8 first official video demo comes out, not bad at all

28 May, 2010
Nokia has obviously put a lot of eggs in the N8 basket and is keen to convince us that it's a phone worth having. Nokia has just released the first of a trilogy of videos that demonstrate the new Symbian^3 user interface...

N97 demo was also off the hook, but when it was out it was a disaster. Let's see how N8 will turn out to be.

This is a proper epic fail phone.

Android 2.2 walks all over this. N1, Desire, Droid, all already released ages ago are already and will always be better than this - particularly with android 2.2

froyo is hella blazingly fast and not to mention now android browser is the fastest browser WITH adobe flash 10.1 ....

ovi maps? what about google maps... with turn by turn voice navigation too.... sure google maps uses data, but it is still free just like ovi.

          apps? android gonna rule soon....

i will laugh at those who choose this over a samsung galaxy s or an evo 4g gsm equivalent - which will probably be released before this

i know i sound very critical and like a massive google fanboy, but plz, this is a pathetic attempt by nokia and those who don't see it need to come out of their caves

Sorry to say, whilst excited about the camera and form factor, that video was embarrassing. It had been edited to speed things up, the guy was trying to be like Jonathan Ives from Apple (oops) and the interface was confused and lacking the consistency vital to the consumer and pro sumer market.

Nokia must do as Apple did when they hired the former designer of Delicious Monster and bring in someone to completely overhaul the user experience on their devices.

Again, and I speak as human factors person, the GUI was dull, the components were too small for large or female nail equipped fingers and lacking in originality. To date, other than Apple, only LG have got this right. The GUI on most LG touch screen phones is a delight, even the Cookie I'm using whilst waiting for my next smart phone. For example, the icons used to select functions on the camera are huge, almost an inch across, and a doddle to select without missing during the heat of the moment.

From that video, I will not be getting an N8, massively let down. :(

Ok first things first, it's too early to write this phone off as some people already have. NOKIA haven't even released the phone yet so improvements can be made before the final product is released.

Having said that, my first impressions are my reservations are still out on Symbian. The N8 looks nice in my opinion, the touchscreen seems to be pretty good and Nokia's most responsive so far, the hardware on this phone is great. But i don't know how many of you guys have Symbian before, it starts off great but just becomes kinda slower as the weeks go on. I just hope that this phone doesn't suffer the same fate.

GSMArena were right, it's not the fastest phone we've seen and by far not the slowest either. On paper the phone looks good, again it's way too early to write the phone off. I just hope for Nokias sake a lot of us eat humble pie when it comes down to this phones OS. But if our early guesses prove to be true, Nokia will need to start thinking about their marriage with Symbian and start going towards Android.

Anyway let's see what the final phone brings us.

Apple is full of lies, fraud and they are the most disrespectful company I have known. Nokia better not go that way at all if they want to keep their respect.

Nokia maybe struggling to get into the trend but they will be there soon using their own way but that way should never be the Apple way or you guys will find your pockets empty for couple of toys.

I just hope that Nokia will copy Apple marketing, when yhe I phone 4 will be available all the press will mention it although the N8 will be superior than the i phone 4, the press won't be as crasy, why everybody knows Steve jobs and nobody knows Nokia's CEO, come on Nokia, your hardware is better, your design with aluminium casing is better, your software is very good, Flash works ! just make your marketing as good as Apple and the N8 will be a game changer! come one Nokia!

I think that is good successor of nokia 5800 and that will be my next phone i guess. Nice metal cover, symbian with better interface and landscape home screen without physic qwerty keyboard

                              Few words from slashgear.com

"Still, that doesn’t come as a huge surprise, since the Symbian Foundation have previously admitted that the significant changes will have to wait until Symbian^4."

I am not much on to Nokia's side but I have to be on Symbian's side after experiencing Symbian's strength, with hope that new ^4 will look as nicer as it nice with its features out of the box.

Anonymous, 29 May 2010some of us dont want too simple interfaces, which later on ... moreThe new symbian is not too bad

the main key in ui design is to use as less menu as possible.

I dislike the long tap on widgets to bring up menu, can it be like android and iphone

the web browser ui is a fail

anyway i still love symbian and nokia

the interface doesn't seem bad at all, but it isn't top notch. other phones might be slightly more responsive and faster, and the ui is somehow cramped.

arun, 29 May 2010i think the OS is little complicated.we want simple user in... moresome of us dont want too simple interfaces, which later on actually become more complicated than symbian. the thing with iphone and android is that they are shortcut OSs, shortcuts are all over the place. whereas with symbian everything is tidy in its own folder. games in the games folder, gps software in gps folder, entertainment software in another folder, social media software in another etc etc. i dont like having my apps all over the place.

Actually the new os is easy to use and familiar with the nokia users

if you say this os looks bad, i still think nokia n8 will sell very well, new os , good spec .especially the camera side and good very good price

nokia will not die easily and will raise its market share fiercely from this year onward.

Nokia phones startet with c5, affordable midrange qwerty phones and good price n8, and i am sure the meego phone is also has good price

ah nokia has said they willl make nokia phones price lower and make less low end ,phones. More focus on the mid and high end phones.

I dont know but for me it looks very boring. Design of menu is so ugly. Even first gen iphone looks better. Maybe it will have 12 cam, and hdmi output, but who cares if phone by itself looks crap. Design of menu is crap. Sorry but soon samsung i9000 will be realeased, ip4, new htc. So nokia should come out with somw thing very special.
