Nokia N8 first official video demo comes out, not bad at all

28 May, 2010
Nokia has obviously put a lot of eggs in the N8 basket and is keen to convince us that it's a phone worth having. Nokia has just released the first of a trilogy of videos that demonstrate the new Symbian^3 user interface...

To get good pictures, you need a good lens, a good sensor & good software. The N8 doesn't have a lens cover for a start so, there's one point of weakness, the lens can/will get scratched.

A Xenon flash also produces a different sort of light when used so you may need to add Photoshop to your shopping list & then you're limited to what you can do with a jpeg file, especially when you compare it to a RAW file.

I think, we need to wait and see what a proper review will throw up, I noticed that in the video that it slowed right down when dealing with an image file, which suggests that its file handling is poor.

      over 400 comments, holy crap

you know noone's stoping from buying a Desire, N8 or iPhone

you can go buy all 3 if you want.

When these companies go head to head for some reason we have to pick a side too and fight for no reason.

Just like with the console wars, get whatever you want, get them all and let the companies kill each other

cause in the end we're usually the ones who benefit from the competition

All the apple guys that say big deal to the camera..the more mp, the more detail. And you are forgetting one other key factor - XENON. This phone is gonna kill in the imaging department. Anything else it can do is just a bonus (free maps for example). Iphone lolz.

Currently own Samsung HD but im very tempted to get the n8 cause of it huge photo sensor. Im into photography and this will be handy to carry around all the time. The HD video looks better than my samsung HD.

[deleted post]You're lucky you got to see it. Unfortunately all the information I have is second hand. I wish the person I know would show it to me but unfortunately that would be a security risk for Nokia. :(

Anonymous, 31 May 2010A 5800 with a 12MP slapped on it. *yawn* Nokia is boring as... moreFirstly, explain how its just the 5800 with a 12mp camera slapped on. Bring out facts, not bullsh*t.
The battery isn't non-removable. It can be removed with a screwdriver but it isn't recommended you do that and it may void the warranty.
For all the people out there who want to see something that could kill the iPhone, here it is:

                    http://gizmodo.com/5167790/sixth-sense-technology-may-change-how-we-look-at-the-world-forever

                    http://www.pranavmistry.com/projects/sixthsense/

This is still a work in progress but a successor to this will be really popular. This is a real iPhone killer, and possibly Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, SE killer.

A 5800 with a 12MP slapped on it. *yawn* Nokia is boring as hell. Im not surprised their huge flagship stores has been closing, that symbian is starting to have a huge declining market share, developers loosing interest developing for symbian and that nokia had 0 number 1 phones for the past 3 years. Symbian had a LOT of time to improve but nokia is too late. Android is already eating their market share.

Nokia is just like everyone else now, trying to resemble the iPhone. They just implemented a 'home' button, coverflow, iphone gallery, multi-touch, non-removable battery on this. Those are real trademarks of iPhone and they just try so hard to copy it. Its pathetic. The "king" cant even make their own things anymore.

Art Vandelay, 31 May 2010Nokia makes amazing hardware. Too bad their OS sucks. I wis... moreThere we go again! Random people walking around and stating that Symbian^3 "sucks".

So far, everybody failed to explain what exactely he finds "sucks" at Symbian^3.

So, you guys either start to be more specific at your critique and elaborate on what bothers you with S^3 or better keep being silent.

Apparently, S^3 shines at customizability, at multitasking performance, at efficiency (it runs on 680 MHz as opposed to many android devices that run on 1 GHz devices). Not to mention Exchange push mail capability, multitouch, copy/paste and good 3D gaming experience.

What most of you guys forget is that the N8 is still in its pretty early stages and far from being finished hardware and software.
This russian blogger that stole a very early preproduction device and wrote a very bad review, forced Nokia to come out of the wood much earlier than they actually wanted.

The N8 looks like a nice phone but its too much an android look alike, customising home screen? apple and android and the messaging again threaded it seems? blackberry its like a phone is an amusement park . However due to the latest poor built quality and poor service and also nothing interesting its a disappointment id rather have something more interesting. I love nokia but its nothing exciting anymore :(
