I don't see the problem though, what's so bad about a phone being made in China? Not everything that's made in China is crap, only the fake phones which aren't made by any of those companys.
Motorolla isn't a crap company and it's a Chinese company...
Apple fails with phones anyway, everyone just got brainwashed by their iPhones.

but thats why we have VGA, WVGA etc.. these presets are for our eyes, hense the 'widescreen' cause we can see more wide than hight
but as Apple has its own world, to keep their aspect ratio they had to have such heavy pixel dense screen cause its not every gen they increase the res and so by hitting the next milestone for at least 2 more gens they have made it easy for the devs to just update the apps to what will be standard for 2 more years
the only thing thats bothering is the battery, the iphone and any smartphone these days find it hard managing VGA and WVGA screens without dieing after a days regular use, imagine what 640x960 will be like.
but than agian the 4th one does have 30% larger battery

Here's the thing - AFTER THE P... moreThe reason for this phone having 960x640 pixels isn't so its super HD. The reason is they needed a screen with more pixels than the current one and this resolution had twice the horizontal and vertical pixels than previous iPhone screens. This means games will be compatible for all iPhone versions and all you have to do increase them by 4x for this phone which shouldn't be too hard for most.
Essentially, 960x640 resolution was the first 'available' option for use for the iPhone.

Seriously, you can't even get access to the content of your apps, menus or folders on your phone through iPhone. How is that effective? On top of that you always have to use your own athorized iTunes on your PC, can't use someone elses or anywhere else. Whereas other phone can connect to any PC they want with in the world with usb, on cafe's, friends, if you are on vacation etc and get access to the whole phone as well as transfer any content from any pc. Itunes is as effective as being locked up in a jailcell and a becomming effective expert wallwriter with a stone.

Pixels turn invincible!
That's why they used a MICROSCOPE!
You can't distinguish that 960x640 is sharper than 800x480 on 3.5 inch screen!
So this is NOT an advantage in real life at all

Personally I think it's great.

The Iphone can have a 1920x1080 resolution, 25MP camera and fly to the moon, but it still doesn't changed the fact that you are balled and chained to iTunes. Which is probably the single most irritating piece of software ever created, engineered to drive people insane with it's synching, deauthorization, tick boxes etc ets, the list goes on and on, not to mention the ridiculously heavy cpu drainage on your PC when iTunes is running. iTunes is more like a dictator than a software. The only single reason i couldn't have the iPhone 3G for more than a couple of weeks back in 2008 was iTunes, it is a software from hell.

I'm not sure if packing more pixels per inch is the best way to go, sure it will look better but we're getting to the point where decent resolution is able to be seen on a small device but...
How many people are going to be interested in seeing the video played back in full quality without being downcaled (as it happens now), not so bad for lower res videos but when you're able to see 720p which belong on the big screen not the small screen, yes full clarity but it's not going to be any more enjoyable than a downsized version on the same screen with less DPI.
