Comparing ... moreThe xp isn't a midrange though. The mi 5 is more of a midrange.
The things that make the xp a midrange to people like you, like display being 1080p, are present in the mi5 too. They both fall into the same category of flagships that aren't the best at everything and should be cheaper than phones like the g5 and s7.
Besides, those classifications mean nothing if the xp is more expensive. Its not like the Samsung J series is more expensive than the S series.

personally i would chose Xperia since i hate the copycat miui of mi5

Comparing the XP with a "flagship on paper" - MI5 is not fair play and we all know that.
It's like comparing the S7 with the J7. They are not in the same category.

I said it once and i will say it again.... Sony fans will buy Sony and Xiaomi will buy Xiaomi.
Xiaomi is now popular cos of it's price.... and not to mention that there are 1.4 bil Chinesee people so, i kinda expected Xiaomi to win with at least about 80% up votes. xD
P.S. Xiaomi phones choice still poor in countries on Balcan. ;_;

Build quality and reliability are super important. Chinese phones seem to "have it all" until you notice how quick they fail. Cheap price means cheap hardware, no matter how powerful the phone is. I'm sure they can make excellent phones but they seem to focus on price over quality.

I have the Mi3, two years, dropped plenty of times, only that alloy back got slightly smudged at the corner but everything works very well. Absolutely zero issues, has Marshmallow and I am thinking of upgrade only o jump on that 4G bandwagon. My friend has a Xperia Z and had many problems with signal dropping out easily, frozen screen etc. but nothing very serious. So...it depends really.
I would vote for Mi5. Sony is a bit overrated and overpriced. Hope X series does better than Z

AnonD-503930, 06 Mar 2016Not surprised.. Sony decided to go with awkward same design... moreIt's not really a decision, but rather limitation caused by the harsh reality -- they are stuck in time and haven't been doing their homework lately.
The bezels on that screen are so large that one may miss they also introduced the curved edges. Going backwards from the Z5 doesn't help either...

no matter how good this chinese phone looks on paper, it wont live up to even a 100th of the japanese phone. had the mi 3, capacitive and lower portion of the screen didnt work after a small drop within a month, no replacement availability at all and the battery is toast within 3-4 months. got the z3 compact after that, same handling, no problems through all the 1.5 years of owning it.

What's the point of this Poll. MI5 is a flagship and Xperia X is a mid ranger. It's obvious that MI5 will come on top. For a fair result MI5 should have gone against Xperia X Performance.
