Samsung and Phillips bail out of 3D TV business

Well my opinioin is that they should improve the quality of the 3d on TVs. Make the refresh smoother instead of casting video at 120hz it'd be better to increase that refresh to 240hz so the eye wont hurt after 3 hours. That could be easily achived by frame smoothing of frame blending.
Honestly I find 3d entertaiment really cool since I play games on a 3D screen and it is awesome.
The other day I was playing a game with the oculus rift and my computer was plug to the 3d Tv. I setup the 3D on the TV and BOOM! Finally the friends that were on the living room with me put on 3d glasses and everyone was experiencing somehow the same as me. :D I hope big companies keep supporting this tech or at least dont remove it from ther product line.

i suggest change the TV name to Theathre Screen . in fact the TV is not design for now day broadcast quality provided in even so call FHD channel. its more on design for the blue-ray etc , which is the player media . & in that case , i would accept 4k screen pair with 4k player. not like now day , name as TV , but all TV channel is blur..

in fact , the tv not play well as a tv. please do research how to upscaling nicely for those VCD , DVD channel quality to true FHD. im lucky just go for FHD version , but all our tv channel program is so blur....

3D TV are expensive, almost twice the price of regular HD TV, but its only advantage over regular HD TV is just its 3D feature, while everything else is the same.
that's why people won't buy it.
if only they could make it cheaper (closer to regular TV), I'm sure people would pick it over regular TVs.

Anc, 09 Mar 2016Btw, which model do u have ? any advise to buy new one ?I have 2012 model Philips PFL5537 with Philips PTA518 active 3D glasses. Mine is only 40" but there are bigger models. I think newer models do not use this technology because it is fairly expensive to manufacture. But I bought mine in 2013 and it's still great to compare newer models (seen those).
I still find hard to find good 3D movies with real pop-up effects.

Bought a 3D TV but I must have watched a movie only 3 times. Not really that appealing. I guess until things start to really pop out of the screen, interest won't be that great

one problem is that 3d on lower end models is poor to average, on the above average and high end models the 3d is often outstanding, although I do admit it is a gimmick, i use it for movies only on my home tv, i bought a low end spec tv with 3D $300 and the picture was appaling and the display was rubbish, i almost immediately too the tv back to the store and purchased a samsung mid range and the display was very good, i now have a high end samsung as well and the image processing on it is probably the best i have seen anywhere including the cinema

Generally 3D TV have higher spec than no-3D ones whilst deliver better image processing. Wait for 4/5D for the next decade while keeping my 3D TV for a while. #RIP.

I avoid 3D in theaters as well. It's just not done right yet, and they charge a lot more for a worse experience. Screw that.

Ive always been really dissapointed with 3d. I saw polar express with my kids and Avatar and was dissapointed with both.
I certainly won't miss it.
