But Xiaomi takes less profit on the device and they virtually make no advertisement (outside of China). Retails prices will be lower in China too due to no import fees and other governmental taxes (like VAT, battery-recycling-tax etc...) which makes European prices astronomically high :-(
The culprit of high prices are usually the additional taxes that are asked. In Belgium alone they have 33% import tax, 21% retail tax, a separate Battery recycling tax + additional device recycling tax. I guess alone in taxes that government in that country steals over $170 per device per customer!!!!

Which is actually very similar to this.
It's obvious that both companies spend a lot on marketing and less on R&D in the case of Samsung (obvious again since most of the R&D o/t OS is done by Google itself). They appear to have similar profit figures for similar devices. It more and more doesn't matter if you'd go for Android (Samsung) or iOS-phones. Bill of materials is similar and retail prices are similar.
Interesting read nonetheless.

This cost is pretty high for a company spends 12 billion dollars in R&D! The cost of material must be a lot lower than this.

nobody count development of the product, like it said cost of bill of materials not complete cost, I agree that every brand like samsung, sony, lg, htc, apple asks a lot of money for their products and it could be less but if you think that this can be made for 255$ why don't you open your own company

why do droidfans have to mention iphones in everything? this article has nothing to do with iphones but its pretty obvious bcuz iphones sell by the bucketloads wether its marketing brainwashing or not. but i agree these competions to who is the best will go on forever but its usually when what a person loves, is being overshadowed by sumthing better. its either samsung vs apple, batman vs superman, liverpool vs man u, real madrid vs barcelona, england vs germany, list goes on.
usually the people following sumthing which is superior, either financially, or more common, they usually remain quiet. but the ones who speak negatively about the other are usually the ones who feel overshadowed. (droidfans) proof? every comment section on most articles on here consists of negative comments mostly by droidfans.

still we don't really know how much margin they have on each unit.......
I wonder if Samsung makes a higher margin or Apple on their flagships........

In real life, Samsung company (holding company's) its much bigger than Apple (maybe google too), they invest alot off money in R&D, their line production are very complete. Samsung's success is not about making things people buy

this is resonable for all companys. example apple spends more money on marketing and devolopment. thats why they are so succsusfull on mobile market, sammy did the same and you cant blame them.
