In my opinion it's simply a design error, nothing more nothing less. And Apple should correct this asap and change production immediately. As it's shown in Apple's own ads, the natural way to hold a phone for a right handed person is in fact with his/her left hand and use the right to input commands.
Furthermore, design should have had avoided critical locations of the antenna such the one actually chosen.
In conclusion: an Apple's big mistake and fault. This time they went wrong.

[deleted post]It's bulkiness can be seen as a huge flaw to someone who wants a smaller pocket friendly phone. That & the fact that it took a firmware update to allow the phone to be used in portrait mode as per every other phone on the market - so day one it wasn't perfect.
I love nokia phones & have had quite a number of them since the N95. & my current work phone is an E52 - brilliant phone with amazing battery life
I'm not slating the N900 don't get me wrong. What I'm saying is that each phone has points that some people will love & others won't. But I don't understand the descent into hatred. If you don't like the phone don't buy it. But surely people have better things to do with their lives than to spout vitriol about a phone that, judging by the posts, they don't own, nor have they ever owned...

'Gripping ANY mobile phone will result in some attenuation of its antenna performance, with certain places being worse than others depending on the placement of the antennas. This is a FACT of life for EVERY wireless phone'
Really! i've had no problems like that with my 3GS, Nokia, SE and motos.

I'm not sure I get this Iphone hater thing at all really.
In the last 18 months I've owned;
HTC Touch HD - beautiful phone but lots of flaws & very laggy & slow..
Nokia N97 - powerhouse of a phone but what is with the symbian memory split - only 50Mb of 32Gb available to the C memory & no matter if you install all apps to E memory it still takes up a bit of the precious 50mb which all too soon stops the phone from working (low memory/out of memory messages).
& lately the HTC Legend - I love this phone - stunning design & compared to the Touch HD it's mega fast. HOWEVER - all those apps in the market & I only have 150Mb to install them - I'm down to 80Mb now & have to keep deleting apps to install more so's not to run out of memory
My point? - All phones have flaws - & I bought the missus an Iphone 3GS as she wanted a smartphone but thought the others would be too complex for day to day use. The Iphone is perfect for her needs & I must say the graphics on the apps are stunning.
All phones have downsides - if you want a phone with a radio - buy a phone with a radio.
If bluetooth connectivity is your main priority - get a phone with excellent bluetooth. Don't sit & whine about another phone that doesn't have what you want on it - just don't buy it. At the end of the day it's just a phone - it's not like it went out & mugged your granny.....

Anonymous, 26 Jun 2010I'm not denying that there's an issue. I'm just saying tha... moreYes, you are right in a way... Non owners are more sad.
But you see, the non owners were the potential owners who wanted the set later on after release.
They are sad it got screwed up, and more so, because Apple are not rectifying it, but publishing useless statements...
Instead of this, if they get Samsung Wave, almost all of their needs are met at prices that are a fraction...
Who will justify that injustice to existing owners, even though they might not complain openly?

Anonymous, 26 Jun 2010I'm not denying that there's an issue. I'm just saying tha... moreSure, I'll go right ahead and ducktape mu 800 euro phone so I can talk on it.
Or perhaps I'll use a rubber condom so the super high strength materials don't crack on me x( -30 times harder than plastic they've said. PLASTIC DOESN'T CRACK!
Oh wait... it also scratches...
But geez louise that's not all! they haven't changed almost anything to the OS. FOLDERS!? is that all!?
Look what's missing: http://goo.gl/OkAB
iPhone 4 is not only an almost smartphone but also an almost phone, because phones don't loose their signal completley when you touch them.
Have you read about the inverted volume buttons? NO QUALITY CHECK AT ALL!

[deleted post]I'm not denying that there's an issue. I'm just saying that the media is blowing it out of proportions. The issue can obviously and easily be avoided. It does not disable the iphone at all. As I have said, the iphone4 offers more bars and better call quality than the 3gs. So why should we complain? It's funny that non iphone users complain and are more upset than iphone4 owners.

I'm sorry, but I have to say this:
This is complete bullshit from Apple.
What? Do you think such a lousy excuse is enough? Even your ads show it holding it that way. And I hold my 3GS the same way too. Do you think only a few people holds it that way??
Do you think this will satisfy the hundreds of thousands of users who payed the heck out to get the phone they think its best for them? Hell, seeing the way its going, its not even being a proper phone!
This is the FIRST time I've seen a phone that needs to be held at a way that the manufacturer requests you to, and not the way your'e used to or normally do. Not even cheap china copies have this issue, and yet with this phone you can buy loads of those.
I actually wanted to order one of these, but, seeing that even such a basic phone feature is crippled in this latest iphone, I rather buy something else. Or at least until Apple fixes it before its too late..
