Apple finds iPhone 4 signal bars misleading, hiding poor signal

02 July, 2010
Apple just issued their official statement on the non-existent iPhone 4 reception issues. What iPhone 4 users are experiencing when they grip the lower left corner is just their real signal, poor as it seems...

Even the BBC tv shop Top Gear commented on the iphone4 problems when 'Stig' was introduced.

What everyone should be saying is that NO company should getting away with this sort of issue.

The more people sit back and take it the more companies will just do what they want and blame everyone else, please speak up and complain.

[deleted post]I believe those 1.7 million units were shipped in 3 days. They were actually sold over multiple months via pre-orders. Another example of Apples less than honest business practices.

[deleted post]obviously the 1.7m sales in 3 days is because of Apples cult following. And of course anyone purchasing the iphone then would not know about all the faults we know about now! your the one who needs to get real. Apple is playing you all for fools. £500+ for a faulty product, and if there's anything wrong with it your on your own.

now, how many of those 1.7m have been returned? and now the faults have been pointed out, how many have sold since? i would be very interested to know those figures

In facts..iphone 4 cannot called smartphone..WHY??? simply reason..b'cose it no bring me the smartphone feel..people want the REAL SMARTPHONE nowaday..iphone 1st generation untill now the iphone 4 for me it was juz outdated..Although it have the n3w d3sign but actually it bring for NOTHING..

              (Bass surround)

              Did u know guy??
All above iphone cant,NOKIA S40 series does all..NOKIA S40 series is simple basicly phone in low market..

And say "Good Bye" to iphone..

I knew appl e iphone fan always think they have the world "best thing" or maybe "c0ol thing" on their hand and no like compare with other phone or think no other phone can compare it..

But think cleary if u told me iphone is the most c0ol thing can rock the w0rld 3 years ago,i d0 accept y0ur "words"..Now ¡s different..time is changed..people demanding is changed..

Everytime appl e said change again and aga in..actually it was changed n outdated again, changed n outdated again..lol

Who car3s about the retina display???glass body??? Haha..!!!
              People needed is practical thing..

Again..maybe u will said me is jealous..honestly im gonna to tell u im not..of course u can said me jealous..but before u try to saying that juz ask yourself why u say that n I can gave u my answer to u is"iphone is nothing can make me jealous on it"

My concern is not that Apple has released a faulty product (every company does at one time or another) but at Apple's flat out refusal to acknowledge the real cause. As others have pointed out on here, this is a hardware antenna design fault and not a software bug.

Maybe they cannot admit to it yet for litigation reasons, but their arrogance towards this issue will likely alienate even hardcore Apple fans.

I guess this whole thing shows Apple's true colours now. In the past they have prided themselves as being champions for the consumer against the big corporations (IBM, Microsoft). Their response to this issue just shows they are simply another company looking to make as much money as possible. I have no problem with that, I just wish Apple were a bit more honest to everyone (including themselves) about it.

Its very sad, when such a large company with so much funds gets it SO wrong.
I guess you have to do something to protect your self when you have spent so much money on a developing a new phone that's a flop, but at least be honest about it.

Apple I also suggest you change your testing... stop hiding your phones in fake cases or you will never really be testing the phone.

Maybe we should all start doing iPhone 4 users a favour and recommend a proper phone.

Either that or Baa like sheep when you see someone using it.

Anonymous, 06 Jul 2010Again your ignoring what this article says, hiding behind i... moreLOL @ you !!!! Ha Ha Now your another muppet who is failing to see the way this post has been drifting. When have I said that I justify the faults on the iPhone 4? Please find where I have said this????? Now if you read back, I have said that although the statement by Apple seems to be strange, Apple need to be given a chance to assist iPhone 4 customers and if they still dont resolve the problem, then iPhone 4 customers will naturally take this further. In the meantime Apple have offered a full refund to any iPhone 4 customer within 30 days of purchase. But without seeing how the software update fares, why is every hater jumping on the bandwagon? This is a situation between iPhone customers NOT haters! Its up to the iPhone customer to deal with this issue and get the best help and in the best way they can.

Again what Apple says seems a little strange. I know its not acceptable that iPhone 4 customers are experiencing problems and if Apple are wrong with the future update to resolve the problem then it will only be egg on their faces!!! But thats an issue between Apple and its customers, not haters coming to slate! iPhone customers have paid good money for their handsets and the overall phone is brilliant, we all know how good the iPhone is, but there is an issue that needs resolving.

Now the sad pathetic haters are coming here bashing iPhone customers and the phones, preaching how Nokia is better blah blah blah...What im saying is dont come to an iPhone 4 problem post slating the iPhone and its customers and preaching about handsets we dont care about ie ANY NOKIA!!!!!!! This post has nothing to do with NOKIA and its customers.

Does that register? Or you still so wrapped up in Planet Nokia and so full of hatred towards Apple??? So if the haters stop being muppets, we can all discusss this more civilised! Comprende?????

Per their findings, there's also a software issue, and that there's nothing wrong with the antenna. How can you explain this scenario then? When you are at an area where at&t has a strong signal, the signal bar doesn't drop however way you hold the phone? And in some areas, the bars don't totally drop, but in some it does. How can you explain that then?

Also, they are offering a full refund if anyone decides to return their iphones. I think that is fair enough. And how can you say that the 30 day period is over when it's only the 5th of July? The iphone4 has not even been out for two weeks. Do you even have an iphone4 for you to be so concerned about this issue?

[deleted post]Again your ignoring what this article says, hiding behind insults to other phones. Your a joke. Stick to what we are all here to discuss - Apples statement about the signal problem of iPhone 4. Seriously, do you really believe their statement? Do you believe in fairytales? Aren't you angry at how your beloved company treats you for a fool?

Recap: Apple deny problem (although they must have known about it before release). Apple blame 'non-problem' on 'incorrect' handling of phone (although this is ridiculous, no other phone in history has needed to be handled in a specific way). Apple admit problem (finally). Apple blame problem on carriers and 'badly calculated bars' (again ridiculous, problem is obviously related to handling). Apple say solution is software fix (absurd, problem is blatantly hardware related).

My future prediction: Apple blame *insert company here* for actual hardware problem, now 30 days refund period is over a fix will be available at retailers (for a small charge, of course) or buy a case (from Apple).
