Samsung developing a 1/1.7" camera sensor for upcoming flagships

The new sensor is purported to have an aperture as wide as f/1.4 and would be in the 18-24MP range.

The sensor doesn't have an aperture, the lens does.

1/1.7" is a great sensor size. The Panasonic LX3, LX5 were legendary cameras using this sensor size. The image quality from such sensor size could be incredibly good. But I am a bit worried about the 18MP resolution. This means same size pixels as today's sensors. They should stay at 12MP for a real improvement.

Wow that's really close to the lumia 1020's 1/1.5" so a modern lumia 1020 is on it's way ;)
