You racist fool, pretty much everything comes out of china these days, even the items that are made well and not cheaply like this device. It's not like people outside of eastern Asia, including ourselves, haven't made cheaply built products before. Every manufacturing plant has made a cheaply manufacturered product, Americans nor anyone else are obsolved from this ongoing industry problem. All of 'em have cheaply built products and gadgets, or have had them recently. Just because something is made in the US, doesn't make it any better. This does nt obsolve Xiaomi from their terribly built computer, but its true.

If you try to do a bend test while the screen is up then the phone either bend or break but if you try to bend it while the screen is down then phone would definitely break instead of bend....
If you look closely on the Mi5 bend test, he bend it while the screen is down but on his other test with different device he bend it while the screen is up...he totally try to make Mi5 look bad...

I remembered that Hugo said that Xiaomi wanted to change the mind-set that all Chinese products are low quality, and Xiaomi is on the way to set a new standard for all chinese companies. Well, honestly I hope it does not happen....or else everyone will produce cookies & crackers. LOLLL

My takeaway points:
- Xiaomi should be credited for using glass as the camera lens, unlike the plastic lens used by Sony on the Z5 and Blackberry on the Priv (now that's a ripoff as you are paying $$$ for it)
- Build quality is a real issue. However, not many realised this due to most phones are put in a case of some sort, adding extra rigidity. You have to thank Apple for the bendgate that build quality is now being scrutinised,
- The Mi flagship series actually is not that interesting in my book. If I'm buying a Xiaomi, I will be looking at their Redmi line, where the bang for the buck is even better. I owned a Redmi 1S and Redmi 2, and both are pretty nice phone. Yes they're thick, but I can use them caseless without any worries.
I think this should give Xiaomi engineers a good sense that there are things you can cut corners off, but there are consequences. People should also ask why are they paying $$$ for HTC M9, the Sony Z5, and even the Nexus 6P when those phones' rigidity are also in question for the money you paid.
I love these tests. It's funny that when it's about Apple, everybody jumped into bashing Apple. But when people start showing that other phones also have issues, the fanboys are all acting like the defensive Apple fanboys. Just look at people defending the Nexus 6P poor build quality.

o yee of little faith. Some joker puts up a video claiming Xiaomi didn't do good and you guys just buy it? tisk tisk. That's not even trying. No phone in the history of ever has snapped like a twig like in that video. These are metal phones with glass on both sides people. They don't snap.

The price of mi5 in my country is just around $350 while samsung galaxy s7 price is around $690 so it is acceptable with that price we get that kind of build quality. So I dont mind to buy the mi5 and add more money to invest in strong case and screen protector.

I don't understand why the bend test is made since the iPhone 6 plus has become viral. its not a big deal, its a peace of tech and it will broke when you bend it. stop bending it! this isn't avatar the last airbender!

No problem it's not Thinkpad era. I'd definitely buy hard shell like Otterbox to prevent any external damages. It will be bulky but I want my precious thing to stay as is for longer time.

ethereal, 22 Apr 2016Only you are being silly here because I know you are a Sony... moreFans and Fanboys are completely different things , if I was a fanboy I would never try other phones than Sony. fanboys are stupid so don't mix me with such people all though I admit that more I use Sony the more I love it ! Now tell me what relation Sony have with this article and why you attacked me ? I didn't say anything about your beloved 6P also I didn't say anything about this Mi 5 . All i said that those bend tests on the link are fake and even child could see that ! anyway all of these phones(even cheap chines brands) are durable more than enough for me since I handle phone with some care and I have common sense which many people lost these day watching TechRax and adrianisen nutela tests .
