for a bigger hand 5.5 will be comfort.....

I suppose, Apple and Samsung show the way to go, choose yor size, if you like, kind of mix. This probably solves the issue to a great extent. Ideal exists somewhere between your aspirations and on the offer state of affairs. It is a personal call, in the end!

Best screen size is 4.5-5.0 with gud specs.. it satisfy both likings.. screen is big enough even at 4.5 4.7 or 5 max. and its easy to handle and carry also for daily use. i never go beyond 5 inches screen. Apple nailed it with 4.7 in iphone6 and i hope they keep this under 5 size in future also. i wud say 4 inc luks bit small.. so if apple cud hav launched SE in around 4.3 or 4.5 inches dat wud hv bn better.

iphone 5s for on the go stuff and note 10.1 does the duty when i'm at home or office.

Anywhere between 5 to 5.5 should make an ideal size, but as many of readers have put in , the body to screen size ratio is very important here, as there is no point in getting a size which translates into the other size category altogether when the bezels and header and footer are taken into account. Trend is alrrady on to make full use os body size, increasing the body to screen ratio to the ideal maximum possible. Also aspect ratio needs to be taken care of when we talk of ideal body size. I think, here Anthropoligical data of humans man and woman put together needs to be researched into for attaining ideality, ease of use being of prime importance. Men and women need different sizes and weights as far as phones are concerned. Ergonomics of design should become a major factor in the success or failure of a product to used by us human beings!

I like Huawei mate 8 design. Narrow downing the bezels even further will be better. Specially from the sides.

i've used the galaxy S5 for about more than a year now and i decided to switch to iphone SE, i might say i miss the screen size but after sometime you kinda feel right back at home using small screen. im not really into the games and videos on my phone so screen size does not really matter to me

No. So just ... more....Well if you did the calculus, you would see that a bezel-free device 65-67mm wide with a 16:9 type display would have a diagonal of 5.22"-5.38", and as they ask for "ideal" not "existing" (if you read even the header), your reply is incorrect.
Anyway, my point is that setting the limit on the display it self ignoring the bezels is pretty meaningless. We all (I guess) want a display as big as possible, for the device size.
....Assuming it can be held without inadvertently interacting with the display - so either some minimal bezel, OR some smart side-sensors that can detect the hand holding it, and ignoring touch input along the edge from that OR having the outer few mm of the screen as display only without touch....

5.5 screen with really thin bezel will be really cool..
e.g. S7 edge..
with 76% screen to body ratio and 72.6 mm wide

I think the screen to body ratio should also be considered here. There are lots of phones who supposedly have an average sized screen but have unnecessary bezel sizes.

6inch+ with narrow bezels like Tvs the biggger the better, bigger battery, thinner design, probably better specs
