All right everything is fine cam is impressive phone functionality is good and there is no problem.but i think above 5 or max 8 cams on a phone is useless this kind of cams are for professionals and hearing 12mp cam on a phone isn't like 1 year ago.
if you wanted a 12mp cam it's mean you want take some action and outstanding pics not a few in a party so go and buy a digi cam that without any limitation built for your need.
and another notoriety for this phone is Symbian that every one is switching from.

    ...Cheers from Germany.

If I want to bring the web with me, I want the web with me, not some scaled version, which is fast, but renders pages in a way that they are not ment to be rendered.

Good move by Nokia not to include 12MP in the N8;1 Qwerty version, or people would be confused and both the N8 and N8;1 Qwerty would be competing for the same customerbase. Now people who want best imaging multimedia device can get N8 and people who type alot can get the N8;1 Qwerty.

also, i have seen the videos, and for the most part, they show off the camera, photo gallery, and music......la di da i say! lol

whenever they show multitasking on that phone, they show you whats already running and start closing it like right away:P though from some of the newer ones i do like the subtle animated wallpaper. maybe a take on the live wallpapers from htc?

and what i meant by more reviews for something other than the camera would be like if they showed off the phone in a more, regular used way. like starting to open applications, keeping them in the background, and then maybe do some web browsing, then turn some apps off and see if there was a drastic change in speed and what not, but so far, i've yet to see that

A lit of buyers of modern camera phones will connect them to a TV to show their pictures. And not use a PC to do it.
But sure if youre going to your grams and she has a TV with HDMI, you could bring the cable along with you. But on the other hand, you might be easily boored there and bring your computer.

The reason why nokia is showing of the camera is because that is where all the work has gone in to this device.
People are waiting for it and want to know whats taking so long.
But if you check out the demos they show all aspects of the thing and not only the camera.

Im worried about the browser. I really hope it has tabbed browsing or multiple windows (open the browser more than one time). Cause that is the reason why I cant see my self doing webbrowsing with a symbian unit. I almost always have 2 or more windows open on my PC. And if Im to take the web with me in a mobile, I need to be able to do the same.

if it was a standard HDMI plug, i can totally see it being used on a much wider basis, hell, even abuse it for fun......but the fact that its mini means you have to have the connector that comes with the n8 in order to plug it into said HD tv, and if you are not planning on it, you have to carry that little cable every single time you go out, just in case, and to me, that's silly, always having a small cable with you just in case lol.....but thats just me:P maybe some people will really enjoy it and wont mind carrying it, and to them, awesome! hope you get the best out of it:)

This and the legend are probably the most durable smartphones.
And looking at price and featureset, this seem to be the better buy of those two.

It alls depends on your user pattern.
But the camera is not the only argument for this device.

Jon SWE, 09 Jul 2010Well you are right, you have to wait for it to hit the mark... moretwo very good things you brought up

                            1. games

i HATE that the fact that the iphone made video games on a phone so popular...gah...call me old school, but i grew up with all the classics, and ill be damned if i ever give up my ds *and when it comes out, 3ds* for playing games on a damn phone -_-...just cant stand it. /end of rant.

                            2. reason why i wouldnt bring myself to get an iphone is because of the utter dependence of itunes.....back when i had the first gen ipods it was just annoying to use it, and i never went back since. which is something a lot of people tend to over look, which is why i must give kudos to nokia for making it sooooo easy to connect, drag/drop files to and from a pc, it really does make the whole experience on that end waaaaay better than anything apple can dish out.

but yea, i do understand what you mean man, and i appreciate the fact that i can talk to someone who isnt a troll:P

also, for everyone else reading...seriously, get over this "death grip" on the iphone4....you sound like fools everytime i see comments about how you can hold your phone anyway you like or that your calls dont drop......first of all, any call can drop, and its mostly a reception issue, second, iphone4's reception from what i've seen is great....yes if you hold it in a certain area for a period of time you will lower the reception but not drop the call....data transfer on the other hand is another issue entirely to which i agree, it is bad.....however....the thing is made of glass, would you really walk around with no protection? if not, then you have no "death grip" issues... AT ALL /end rant.

And you can backup important files... if you use your phone to edit a text document, you might want a copy to be on the safe side.
Or you have taken some really good photos, or photos of someone important to you, then you can make a backup of it.

And so what if HDMI is on other devices. Its a pretty good feature. Many people do not connect their computers to their TVs, but they could easily use the HDMI to show videos and pictures from this phone.
So it certainly is not a pointles feature.

Anonymous, 09 Jul 2010well, the main thing that android and ios have dont is make... moreWell you are right, you have to wait for it to hit the market, and see some reviews of sales firmware before you can decide.
But it has twice the memory of N97. Satio/Omnia HD had that amout of memory, and their problems were not low memory, but other stuff.

                                About the UI
Well, you can move icons, to get the shortcuts you want. You can create your own folders and put shortcuts in them.
So you can do quite a lot.
If you want you can get SPB mobile shell, to get some eyecandy on the startpage. N8 has a GPU, so it will look flashy. (it does on Satio/vivaz/Omnia hd, but nokias in the past have not had any GPU, so no fancy 3D effects there).

Its not the phone that is suppose to be fun to use, its the applications.
Going thru the menus, well as long as it takes you where you are going, I dont care much for effects.
Many shortcuts on startpages, and perhaps active funtionality on startpage can make the phone easier o use. But on the other hand, if the kind of functionality that is offered on the startpages is useless for you, you rather have fast menus.
Sure Android looks, better, but i dont think it is that much more user friendly. In some ways it is, but in others, its not.

I think Symbian will start to win back users.
Symbian^3 supports QT, so we will se more apps.
Also symbian is getting more of that eyecandy that is so important to win customers over when they try a unit for only som minutes, a friends unit or a unit in a store.
But nokia is trying to find the balance between eyecandy, and lightweight OS. Less strain on memory and on CPU, gives better battery times or better multitasking.

You asked about iPhone VS N8
iphone has a lot of apps. some totally useless, some only front end applications for webpages, and some for a very niche customer group. But they do have a lot of pretty good games. When it comes to the normal stuff, symbian has most covered today, but I guess, they will have to get ports for symbian^3. so you will probably have to wait.
But sure, if you want a lot of games. iOS is better than Symbian.
iPhone has better resolution on the display, but a stupid aspecratio for watching films. so I'll guess both have advantages in that area.

with the N8 you get a really good camera.
You get full multitasking, and that is pretty good sometimes. for example you can use a stepcounter in the background. Or run an IM client actively... pop up saves battery, but is not as practical.
you have mass storage support, so you can connect the N8 to a friends computer and transfer files.
you can send files thru bluetooth if you have that on your computer... very handy if you just want to transfer a pic or so.
you have a file manager, and that is very handy.
the reception should be better, and Im talking in general and not about that grip of death thing.
You have support for most kind of video codecs.
Full flash support coming to the browser. for watching flash videos, and playing flash games.
you are not limited to just one app-store, and there are no restrictions. So if your mediaplayer does not cut it, just download another. Or if your browser isnt that good, you are not restricted to just opera mini.
                                the N8 is less expensive.

you say a phone should be fun to use... you see people fiddiling around with their iphones every day, without really doing anything on the phone, just fiddiling, cause its fun. And that is just bad for your battery times.

If games is the most important thing for you, then iphone is the phone to get.
If I would get to chose from a free iphone or a free N8, and I could not sell it on. I would go for the N8, I would have more practical use of it. But im not a person that sees a point in spending a lot of money on games to my phone. I just need a few good apps, perhaps a ne theme, and maybe I would try the SPB mobile shell out. And I dont want to depend on iTunes.

if you arnt ganna use the camera on a daily basis, then you arnt the type of user who would benefit from such a powerful camera. there for you have more options open up to you in terms of mobile phones since its not a huge concern. also, if the students need to copy flash to flash, they would ALWAYS have to carry the usb connector, which seems silly to me. also, if they got a slideshow going on there must be a computer somewhere, and if it is urgent and the person needs it, they can always have it emailed to them, and have it right on their desktop instead of having to hook up the n8 and transfer it from there. dont get me wrong, i think its a great feature, but like i said, only a minority would take full advantage. and because of this, i personally dont see it as something that would be a huge selling feature....

i can see people using the camera a lot due to its quality, and that is their biggest selling point about this phone. sadly, i dont see anything else. you can brag about the USB otg, but the HDMI port is on another phone, and im sure it will be on more phones long before nokia has a chance to release another phone with that ability making it another feature that wont get much attention. sadly nokia is probably the slowest with phone releases, and thus the competition keeps passing them. i do understand what you mean though, but imo, i think you should get a phone that has things you will use on a daily basis.....its not like youre paying 20 bucks, these things cost a pretty penny, and to get it simply because of a few features that "could" help you *provided you carry the right cables all the time* at a small random point in your life are not enough to justify a purchase. but thats just me. and that is why i said what i said.

You can send files via bluetooth
You can make video calls over 3g without brand restrictions
You can write your own apps. (symbian)
You can take photos in the dark
You can use your mobile as a usb storage and read micro sd.
You don't have to destroy your sim care.
                                    You can set any wallpaper.
You can customize almost any aspect of the ui with themes. Plus you can create your own themes transition effects and all.
You can play flash content hence not having to wait atleast 8years till html5 which hopefully would be available on iphone6 becomes attractive to developers.
You can save 500 us dolls. (okay, maybe thats out of place)

See, there is a lot you can't do on your iphone. This is just and unserious collection. In the real world, a user of both would feel the difference. Especially multitasking.

thats more than enough, i mean, the whole point for it, is; its there when you need it... a rrly fine example(mentioned by someone ages ago) is for students who needs to copy some slides from other students, but dont have a flashdisk with them, or a nearby computer to copy flash to flash.... not to mention that it would be safer if not risk free that way, since pc viruses wont copy themselves to your mobile
