HTC 10 storage read/write speeds are below average with other 2016 flagships

04 May, 2016
When working with the HTC 10, we noticed something peculiar, the time that it took to transfer sample photos from the phone to out PC definitely felt much slower than transferring photos from the LG G5 or the Samsung Galaxy S7 edge. We thought it’d be interesting to measure how these phones perform in reading and writing speeds on the internal memory.

Write is only useful when you install apps or copy files from computer (But MTP is damn slow anyway). But how many times are you going to do that compared to reading. Read is for loading up apps and games. No wonder HTC 10 sucks in all speed test comparison I had seen on YouTube.

HTC 10 come with various eMMC solutions. Another website starting with "A" got lucky and got significantly higher speeds, while many on the "XD" message forums complained by even slower speeds and quick speed degradation over time. Also they come with different batches of the SD 820 processor, with the "A" website receiving the worst bin, while Samsung for the SD820 versions of the S7 gets the better performing ones.
Also, HTC still has code for benchmark optimization, the CPU and GPU never allow the case to get as hot as when benchmarking and throttle much more aggressively.

Goldie, 05 May 2016Just ordered this phone today, really disappointed I hadn't... more I think You did the right choice. These speeds are in line with micro SD speeds, so even for LG g5 or s7 when using micro SD their speed will go as much as SD card allows it (when working with SD card)
                            You won't feel any difference.
                            Enjoy your new phone

I am happy GSMArena wrote about this. HTC charging $700 for a phone with inferior storage.

You already did, you think the general will know other factors that make the speed of smatphone if yoy don't talk about it at all? They will now just think HTC 10 is a slow phone.

It kills you more to see how Sami is performing! How cane they arent even the champs? They only managed to do well in Reading!

I just installed AndroBench. It shows vastly different scores in the rankings for the phones tested above. I suppose that different samples show quite different scores.
I also tried testing my SD card but random write lasted forever so I had to force stop the app. Don't know if it is a bug but it was way too slow, even with smaller file and buffer sizes.

This is the same as HDD vs SSD. You're not going to notice a difference unless moving stuff around. Does it affect system performance? No. The bad thing about having a slower R/W, your friend gets to transfer data from and to his phone faster, yippie.

OK, GSMArena, why don't you write these memory controller info in phone specs and test results in reviews, so we can know how fast memory a phone has?
I have a LG G flex2, how can I know what memory controller it's got?
