Android N seamless updates not coming to existing devices

20 May, 2016
Google announced a bunch of new features in the upcoming Android N during the Google I/O keynote, one of which was seamless updates. With this, new Android devices running N will be able to download the updates in the background and the next time you restart the device you will be running the new version.

ethereal, 20 May 2016Im sure this 'new' feature shall be available for the rest ... moreI'm not sure you're reading or just blindly posting, but this concerns streamlining OTA updating, something most custom roms don't support (i know a few that may do/claim to do)...
so... your point?

ethereal, 20 May 2016Im sure this 'new' feature shall be available for the rest ... moreNot quite as simple as that, I'm afraid - this would require a complete repartitioning of the device to work optimally, or at least the splitting of the current system partition into two, which would mean that most stock ROMs would not be installable anymore, not to mention making most kernels unusable. It's too much work, even for the XDA community. You might see a way to get it on Nexus devices, but beyond that, I suggest not holding your breath.

Im sure this 'new' feature shall be available for the rest of the devices the very next day the android N device is launched by google. XDA all the way!

So.... does this mean our "32 GB" will now be left with (32 - 2X) GB instead of (32 - X) GB where X is the size of the system partition?

Doesn't sound too good... but i may be wrong so don't quote me on that

Does this imply that the functionality will require two times as much system-dedicated space in your internal memory?
