The survey should be based on total no of users using the app on daily basis (or as their primary messenger app) rather than no of countries in which it is leading. If an app is leading in China and another app is leading in all Arab world, it's still possibility that 1st one is used by larger no of people.

Also, most people love whatsapp emojis, photo video sharing, pdf document sharing, location sharing, voice messages, etc. And it is all freee. If a person uses whatsapp, he will never look back. By the way the app is so good and fast.. even it works with the slowest internet.
And finally whatsapp web is a great invention

I find Facebook Messenger to be a bit clunky and messy...Whatsapp seems simpler and easier to use for me. It would be good to get a top list by messages handled, Download may be deceiving as Facebook practically forced everybody to download messenger.

BBM is the most effective messaging app
Regardless of its low ⬇ download rate it is far more superior functionality wise.
