Xiaomi is a great emerging smartphones manufacturer from China. Most of their devices are great for bucks and almost as famous as Samsung in my country. Although recently, I am amazed of how they are trying to use Samsung's idea to sell their phones; build another variants with lower specs, the same decent builds, add little gimmicks here and there, then give it slightly cheaper price tag than previous variants; that's a sure-fire formula for Samsung to sell their low-to-mid range phones.

Redmi series is focused more on how cheap you can get an Android-powered phone with mid-range specs that usually cost double of ur devices (especially Samsung). This is proven by the release of Redmi 1, Redmi 2, and Redmi Note series, which all use decent SoC, have decent build, bundled with MIUI OS that's as good as stock android [feature-wise].

For redmi 3, the original one uses SD 616, revision of the infamous SD 615 which outperforms by MT6752, even the GPU in SD 616 is the same old one Adreno 405 which also outperforms by Mali T760 used in MT6752.

Now, Xiaomi unveils a new variant of Redmi 3, Redmi 3s which uses SD 430 with its up to 1.2 GHz octa core Cortex-A53; even lower specs than SD 616, equaling the performance of MT6753 that is known for its weak performance as well as weak GPU, with additional gimmicks like fingerprint sensors and bigger battery.

This made me wonder, if I were given a choice, I'd go for Redmi Note 2 as it is MUCH MORE appealing than Redmi 3, 3 pro or even 3s; it uses Helio X10, last-year flagship SoC, bigger screen & resolution, dedicated MicroSD slot, and now the price much more cheaper than it already is. If I want the fingerprint gimmick, I'd get Redmi Note 3, as it also have Helio X10, bigger screen & resolution, and metal-frame; or even better Redmi Note 3 pro as my ultimate choice, as up till now, there are NO competitors using the same SoC as Xiaomi that will give u beast-like performance with Redmi Note 3 pro price tag.

Therefore, if Xiaomi wants to keep their phones to be cheap but have decent builds and performance, try to keep using mid-range SoC for their Redmi phones (SD 625, SD 650, SD 652, and Helio X10), or try to use last year flagship SoC (SD 801, SD 805, Exynos 7 series, or Intel Atom Z3xxx series) and give it mid-range price tag. A last year flagship SoC might be a little outdated, but its performance are still on par with the latest mid-range SoC; no gimmicks are needed to sell ur phones, just like always, give it a solid build, last year SoC, and attractive price tag, it will sell like hot cake (only if u don't mess anything, like overheating issue etc)

Why dont make the redmi 3s 4.7inch variant same size as the very expensive iphone 6s. Dont mind shrink down the battery smaller.

As you can see, the primary proc for SD 430 is 8 cores 1,2 GHz vs SD 616 4 cores 1,7 GHz, while 616 does have a better speed but it's primary proc just 4 cores. Many apps doesn't used companion CPU (mostly only game that supports it). And 430 does come with better GPU, 430 uses Adreno 505 vs 616 uses Adreno 405. From the number, it is clear 430's GPU is more powerful than 616's.
