However, my question is, how are you sure s^3 can't run more apps on 256mb ram than any android can run on 512mb ? Whats the factor? The function? The equation? how can you compare?

bandora, 21 Aug 2010Yes, but the G1 uses Android.. And Android uses lots of RAM... moreYour statement also backs up my statement about how its a crucial balance between both OS and hardware. You say hardware doesn't matter and it only matters about OS yet you just said that Android by nature consumes alot of system resources. Then how does this make it not important to have more available memory to pre-fetch and run apps? You are pretty ignorant trying to pass yourself off as someone with informative view.

Do you even know what a Virtual Environment is? Android is not VT running ontop of another OS. get your facts straight, the real reason why android's bottleneck is system hardware is due to the fact that its just a more multimedia and more internet based device. This is evident by using a custom rom that takes up less ram to begin with. How about you go visit XDA forums and ask around before you spew your uneducated and misinformed statements.

oho, 21 Aug 2010Wow .. I'm just stunned by all this talk going about how N8... morethats the funny part. Even though nokia uses less cutting edge tech, their products are still priced very close to the competition. No its not all about OS, its a balance between both OS and hardware components. G1 bottleneck was lack of ram and cpu performance. MeeGo can perform, however no one really knows yet. However one thing i feel is MeeGo will not be able to compete with apple and android in the app market.

In my opinion samsung galaxy s is a gr8 phone that has a overdesigned cpu and ram. Nokia n8 is a gr8 phone with an optimized cpu and ram. So to sum it off, samsung galaxy s is a gr8 multimedia phone, but n8 is a gr8 all around phone.

Wow .. I'm just stunned by all this talk going about how N8 sports a dated 680MHz, and only 256MB of RAM :D :D
Guys: 1st- This article is about N9, not N8!!
2nd- Why doesn't any1 in this mobile world understands that the numbers of the speed or space don't make a great smartphone! it's how the OS run on these CPUs and RAMs!
HTC HD2 has a 1GHz processor, and it crashes!!
Symbian doesn't need a 1GHz processor or loads of RAM to run smoothly .. so why on earth would Nokia put those on a phone? to just say we have a 1GHz phone?! it's better to put something less to cut the price as long as it doesn't affect the performance!
And you guys don't know what S^3 is about, go read about it and see how it utilizes the CPU and the RAM and see if it does need all those numbers!!

Anonymous, 21 Aug 2010when i pay 550$ i get better camera, usb on the go and some ... moreWell the reason why the Galaxy S doesn't have a flash for its camera is because the camera is not meant to stand out. The Galaxy S,.. basically any of the latest android phones are more geared towards multimedia/social networking device. It's cameras suffices for taking quick snaps and uploading it to twitter or myspace facebook or whatever you prefer. I know what you're getting at when you say you want to carry less devices with you but really? how much more space does a point and shoot camera really take up? The USB on the go is a an alright idea. I feel that it however is some what redundant. So you can browse through other usb devices on your N8.. but whats the point? sharing music and photos with friends? Photos can be shared through facebook and what not so that shouldn't be the main point. Sharing music and videos might give this feature a purpose. Like I said, i'm only going by my personal opinion of Nokia's track record that N9 will not perform all that its hyped up to be. Will it be a contender? Who knows thats up to Nokia to decide. In the end its their product they can release a great phone running on an OS that has potential, or they can release a crap phone running on a new OS that will see no development. Just because MeeGO is a venture between Nokia and Intel doesn't necessarily make it a winner. Don't forget that WiMax was backed by Intel as well and look where WiMax is going.

See those guys at Daily mobile... They are doing wonders to the Symbian UI using SPB shell and Flash HSs.
Only a complete noob will still have their Symbian touch phone running the basic Nokia provided UI.... There are loads of awesome ones available that can be easily installed!
In fact you can get the complete iOS, HTC Sense, and many other great UIs while still maintaining the powerful features of the Symbian platform.

exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010according to you Nokia could also perform the recode right ... moreDo you not think they have already planned that...Obviously the N9 with Meego will have navigation from the start..
You will just have to wait a little while till a good Meego port for N900 comes out.

exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010Once again you just proved my point about marketshare meani... morewhen i pay 550$ i get better camera, usb on the go and some more features like hdmi.i dont want to take both canon camera and mobile if am going outside to take pictures.by usb on the go even i can keep laptop in home.its just an easy way of carrying one thing rather than many extra times along with mobile.i feel u cant compare symbian and symbian 3.they done some changes so we need to wait patiently until it releases and then give a comment about it.ofcourse galaxy s is good with super amoled but it dont have basic flash for the camera.we are just paying for a phone not only for the OS but for some real hardware features.so i dont feel anything bad in nokia which gives all the features in one mobile.ofcourse u need to sacrifice some eye candy android UI.

So how about comparing it apples to apples? Sure when you do nothing but sit and text and occasionally listen to music every phone is basically the same, however once you get into apps, user experience the phones differ much. According to you there would be no need to pay $550 for the N8/N9 because the 5250 is basically the same right?

exNokiaFan, 21 Aug 2010umm you just proved my point further. Reason why N900 will ... moreRead my earlier comment...
"The reason N900 did not get the navigation update was because it runs a totally different OS...Thus it would have been a total redo. Nokia did not commit to this as the Meego update was coming and thus any update to Meemo was useless. Once Meego is complete, then N900 users will be able to get the navigation update along with the change to Meego. In any case, With some ingenuity..I am sure if any N900 was so desperate for navigation, they could hack in Android and it's navigation services to their awesome device."
It not to do with the sales numbers..
