OdysseyTag, 16 Jun 2016Before more people come parading the "Oh my, this has more ... moreYes, we know that its use resources in different way, but guess what is important?
User experience.
And here we have more and more RAM that doesnt translate to speed or usability of device.
Android problem is not in lack of power and memory, problem lie on it self, and adding more power is just nothing more than covering lack of optimization in it. LP, N or M... it all doesnt matter because Android still use really insufficient and old model of system.
We can sit here and talk about how android, windows and linux use every bit of memory, but it doesnt matter because what matter is user experience.
And if current more resource hungry devices like laptops that run on windows/linux can manage better of its power and power consumption than mobile android... it show that its not the way android should evolve.
Because if my tablet with win10 can last even 9H on battery and still give me more power and work possibilietes, and mmy Phone with latest Marshmallow barely last 10h watching YT... what is the point of mobile system? Tell me? I would rather see more stanby optimization on ubuntu and windows and I would seriously dump phone because its useless compared to it

Yes, I saw android N, just like I saw M, when we had LP, and hey! I saw the same situation when we had KK... Every year we have the same system that put new clothes with some hit and miss addons(like useless users feature...)
And keep your head cooled and next time compare it to something similar and get idea of what evolution is and how system should do it

Before more people come parading the "Oh my, this has more RAM than my laptop/PC" statement, please keep in mind that the RAM for both devices are built around completely different architecture and utilize/require different amounts of energy from their respected devices. In the same way we easily assume a cellphone camera is as capable as a DSLR, and mobile GPU is as capable as a desktop GPU, we should not be blinded by the NUMBERS.

Why manufacturer, possibly with an exception of Apple(Android user, not an Apple fan) are working on software optimisations for performance and effeciency with lowest possible Hardware specs, then blindly running after providing unnecessary hardware specs. 6gb in a phone is just waste, 8 gb is insane. Even 3 gb is more than sufficient. Computers I understand require 8 gb or 16 gb or more, as per requirement as they mutitask in a very different way, you actually can open multiple apps and can work on the same time, but phones do not work that way. Even heavily of games currently on Android can run smoothly on 3 gb RAM. I never found my Oneplus One lagging or freezing while playing heavy games with several apps in the background and music running simultaneously. What I'll be doing with 8 gb of RAM? Instead they can provide more ROM to store data, that may be more useful.
The investment should be done on the software experience, that's not only responsibility of Google. Rather than working and putting more effort I useless Hardware features, manufacturers should concentrate on better UX, like better camera apps, smoothness, removed of bugs and optimisations of the OS for the existing Hardware.

Akinaro, 16 Jun 2016So... we have 2016, our phone have power of typical laptop ... moreDear grandpa, have you heard of android N? Stop baffling about old android and comparing it to ios. Evolving is not easy. Why don't you try to evolve and fly into space. Oh wait, even after a hundred years you will still be the same human you are used to be.

There is also the minor detail that the os runs in ram as well !!
It's ok the firms putting in loads of ram,but just as important is the rams speed,8gb of slow ram is worse than 4gb of fast ram.

So... we have 2016, our phone have power of typical laptop from 2009, we have better screens on our phones than on PC, we have more connections options on our phone than any device made before 2009, We have fast internet capable of streaming 4K videos...
And all that is going to air, because there is no good system that would use it.
Because guess what is limiting all that power?
Our beloved Android system.
After all those years, Android still need all that power to... run it self.
True, we have fancy animations and 1000 and 1 ways to send detailed images of emoijs to our friend, but still Android is build on old and really bad made core of system that need too much resources to keep it alive(and Im not talking about external hardware that need such power like eg, image processing on cameras).
Android use resources and RAM in different way than windows.... but still I can run windows10 or latest Ubunty on my old crappy netbook with 2GB of RAM and atom processor... and it smooth as butter in everyday usage...
And android? Clean marshmallow? Or custom OEM version? on typical device(SD810/2GB and SD801/2GB) it can bump cpu usage to 75% just by... scrolling setting options.
Its tell something about how its made...
But even when you compare it to iOS, all that fancy customization cant be a reason to have such demand on power for simple tasks.
Android just need to evolve to something new that could use that power to work, because for now we have old grandpa that just took adrenaline, put fancy outfit and pretend that its teenager.

AnonD-120795, 16 Jun 2016So this thing will have the same amount of ram as my pseudo... moreapparently they need ram for hardcore multitasking(although currently multitasking in android is a gimmick)..apps like chrome load up each tab as a separate app...and if you check out your mobile after it has turned on, all(and i mean ALL) the apps are on in the multitasker, although in a suspended state...
apple has never had true multitasking, it suspends apps when switching so it never needs much ram

AnonD-79180, 16 Jun 2016I really do not understand the mad race behind gobs of RAM ... moreBecause the Kernel handles the Memory in linux and Android true to its linux GENE, does not close all processes running in the background,FREE RAM is allocated to those apps in the background and hence this space needs to be freed up before a new app can be loaded and may lead to minor LAG's and be less smooth compared to others..
IOS on the other hand closes down a major portion of the background apps and only essential bits and peices of it remains in the memory.. This is specifically true to GUI in IOS where it actually dedicates all its power to the app window that is open..

No gsm boys, you are wrong. Even low end pc's has a significantly more powerful processor than a phones one. phone processors are made small and without cooling solutions, so it's impossible for them atm to get that powerful. Take photoshop for example, on a pc it is around 2gb and needs about 1gb of ram to run, not to be installed. On a phone photoshop is less than 300mb max, do your math a pc can run everything without limitations, including android as a program, not as a os. Meaning it runs it's own os and on a window it runs android as well.
No phone will be that capable, and with companies being fong of slimmer and slimmer devices dont expect phones to properly multitasking anytime soon either.
Phones do need ram yes, but nowhere near the same ram a high end pc needs. Last time you were praising your beloved company, and now you come and say that android is like a pc os? Go home gsm boys, you are drunk.
