Some people deemed 3secs... moreThat's clearly your user experience while mine has been very different. If you've suffered 3sec transitions then you have a fault somewhere. I've never had anything like that kind of lag, couple of tenths, rarely, at most and that was on my old ZOPO C2/ZP980 (mt6582).
As you said it's subjective but I do disagree that Mediatek can't compete with Snapdragon on every-day-user performance. Benchmarks and every-day-user are 2 very different things.

Basically, X20 is even better than Redmi Note 3's chipset, the S650 (28nm 2 x A72 + 4 x A53).
So, i dont think that we gonna see X20 in Redmi 4, but in Redmi Note 4. Maybe the first batch of Redmi Note 4 will wear an X20 and the second batch will wear instead an S652 (28nm, 4 x A72 + 4 x A53) or a remake of 652 at 14nm...
And Redmi 4 may wear an S625 or a P10 at first.
Summary: No way for Redmi 4 (not note) to be priced close to Redmi 3 with an X20.

MTK doesn't necessary sucks. It has gotten a whole lot better these days and i am growing a strong preference for MTK over Qualcomm Snapdragon. At least MTK doesn't heat up and still performance my daily multi tasks and games smoothly. Battery life generally better in some ways.

Helio X10 is a great CPU. Redmi Note 2 is very fast for its money with that cpu.

mediatek huh? power users like me wont buy mediatek phones unless they change their software policies. if you value custom roms, avoid it like the plague, plus high chance of no upgrades either, remeber those kitkat 4.4.2 phones? yeah...

regardless you are a normal user and power user, you will find MTK doing poorly compare with SD. The X10 Wifi and battery draining were bugging me for 7 months before selling it for a SD Xiaomi, and I was unable to install a custom kernel is another reason it is a deal breaker.

Errr....What?!
That is like saying, "Sure everyone knows that Harry is a 30 year old guy who cant lift up anything more than 1.5 kgs, runs slower than a 90 year old geezer and cries like a sissy girl whenever the ketchup gets over. But you cant classify that as an issue."
Newsflash, Harry is a weakling. And that GPU issue (among other things) IS an issue. Whether you are an OEM, app dev, end user or anyone of sound mind, you should not be paying for or supporting inferior devices when you have better alternatives in and around the same price range. If Mediatek doesnt step up their game and either innovate or get one up over the competition, they are digging their own grave.

I've had Mediatek phones in the past - going back to the 6582 up to the 6795 - and have had no issues at all. The GPU performance is lower than SD but everybody knows that and it can't be classed as an issue. The biggest issue I've had was with the 6582 which had a GPS fault, which was solved via a free 3rd party app.
Mediatek produce good chipsets - for low-mid range devices.
Redmi is a very successful lineup and this looks to continue it. Let's hope that it's more available this time.

Xiaomi should recognize that there are people waiting for Redmi 3 launch in India. If they are delaying it to not impact Redmi Note 3 sales, I am sure there are many people like me who can afford a Redmi Note 3 are not going for it because of it's monstrous 5.5 inch size.
Being a Redmi fan, It's really frustrating to wait for Redmi 3. At this moment only Redmi 3 is the most VFM phone with right dimensions for my needs.
