Mediatek gained huge popularity last year not only because their helio performed well but also because of snapdragons poor performance, overheating chips(last year-615,810) . but this year snapdragon regained their crown with 650,652 and 820. Mediateks this years flagship Helio x20 is comparable only to snapdragons midrange processor 652... They dont have any powerful processor to stand with snap 820

I have a Redmi 2 Prime, and while it is what it claims to be in performance and speed, the suprise part was the Camera and the Audio quality using the 3.5mm jack.
It was as good as an Apple phone, I swear! And the volume was high enough in both loudspeakers and external headphones/ desktop speakers.

Its been about 1.2 years and I'm very happy.

Needless to say, the Redmi series can't be ignored, specially for those who need just a media centric lowend to midrange smartphone.

I'm from india and xiaomi is widely available here but only with Snapdragon chips because erricson holds some arm patents.so if xiaomi wants to release their MTK devices they have to give 100mil. REALLY!

They better keep it 5' with 1080p, its hard to find a compact phone on entry or mid range these days. And what's keeping them from release redmi 3 outside of China officially already?
