7 September, 2010
The long wait isn't over yet - new info says the Nokia N8 will start shipping in late September, at least for those who pre-ordered. In the mean time, the Nokia E7 popped up, reportedly going official as soon as next week...

This is not the old symbian. This is Symbian^3 and it's brand new and much improved.

People also seem to forget that Symbian is a very low energy using OS, which means your phone will last longer than one day withouth recharge, unlike your typical Android that just sucks any battery dry in no time.

Let's just hope it won't be another disappointing product from nokia, like my last n97. The specs at the time seemed like out of this world, only to be stuck later on with a ton of frustrating glitches, silly alibis from the nokia don't care center and, one update after the other ..... From now on i won't be nokia's lab rat anymore. I'm not letting them learn how to develop their products with my money. The hell with all the phony specs they advertise, most of which will end up not working.
btw, what happened to customer satisfaction and money back guaranteed, no questions asked??? It would have been quite useful in the case of my n97, but it would have been a sure bankrupcy to nokia!

look at what all OS support

Android: Dalvik Java Virtual Machine, beta native ecosystem for C development,Flash and not standard Java ME, use more ressource and memory than symbian and limited in multitasking

              iOS: Objective C

Symbian: framework, Mscript, Silverlight, Python, Java ME, Flash Lite, Ruby, .NET, Web Runtime (WRT) Widgets and Standard C/C++, the only OS who manage ressource and memory with a real multitasking

MeeGo: same as symbian and more, real multitasking use more ressource and rom than symbian

WP7: same as symbian but use more ressource and Rom and not real multitasking

WebOS: Mostly web technologies, level between symbian and meego

ghuozo57, 09 Sep 2010Nokia is definitely the most eco-friendly phone manufacture... moreThe almighty brand being "green"? I always wonder how so?

This company practically releases several models in matter of months, several dozens (if not hundreds) every year.

With constantly new models coming out, what about the old models? Will they be sold out before the new ones come in? I doubt so.

So what happened to these old model new phones? Selling them cheap to 3rd world countries? With current globalization / logistics, people may get these phones cheap and resell them back in the developed countries, hence hosting threats to the pricing of the new models. Then where can these "old" models can go beside the landfills?

And isn't this company, by constantly releasing so called "new" models, encouraging its customers to replace their phones sooner than they should be? As oppose to the "one model per year" company, most actually use the phone for at least one year, if not 2. Where do the old phones go? Landfills?

How about the tooling and molding for the new models? What would happen to the old tooling and molding? Landfills?

And why keep making the 2mm chargers / plugs when the ROW (other than the always unique brand) already moved to micro-USB?

Last but not least, you want a monster cam? Why not get a DC? Even a low-end DC probably can take better photos than most PHONES with camera.

for me 499 is worth every penny because of these stunning features...
i do not care even if it's symbian (symbian is the most stable smartphone os, anyway)

                                      Too little, too late.

I used to be a Nokia fan. But I got sick of waiting around for them to make something like this. And once my 5800xm died, I got myself a Nexus One, six months ago. And I've never looked back since.

Android's got the momentum now. And I really can't see how Symbian can get it back. And Nokia still doesn't get it. It's not about the hardware. It's not even really about the UI (since Android is not as smooth as iOS). It's about the cloud. That's the future. Heavy integration with the cloud and the web. Google gets it. Apple and Nokia don't. They approach everything as either a hardware or software problem. Google looks at issues as service problems.

And for 499 Euros? WOW. Just imagine the Androids you can get at that price. What are they smoking in Espoo?
