AnonD-557986, 08 Jul 2016That's easy to explain. The article is talking about Samsun... moreRight. The success of Samsung's profit this quarter was due to the good sales of the S7 series - people bought lots of it, than last year's S6 series because S6 sucked without memory expansion. Mind you, it had practically almost the same features as the S7 series - fast focusing camera, curved screen, Super AMOLED came in even up to 128GB, EXCEPT memory expansion.
They brought back memory expansion in the S7. Profits soared for this quarter. You got it?

TheNoteMan, 08 Jul 2016So can you explain news statements like "...unsurprisingly,... moreThat's easy to explain. The article is talking about Samsung's lastest quarter and the S7, and you're posting links to headlines from last year. Completely irrelevant.
Here's an article from 1992 about Blockbuster Video, there's no stopping the growth of this company.

AnonD-199447, 08 Jul 2016Sales unchanged at 43$ billion. The profits could be due to... moreIncorrect.
Their mobile division's profits are 50+% higher YoY. You can't get that much of an improvement from small lay-offs and higher YoY margins. At best, margins will only improve by a few percent YoY and any mass lay-offs would have been public knowledge for a company as big as Samsunh.
The revenue numbers are probably down due to declining DRAM and NAND FLASH prices, which make up the bulk of Samsung semiconductor revenue and profit.
In any case, good to see Samsung doing well.
I expect Apple to post a 40-50% YoY profit decline foe this quarter.

Sales unchanged at 43$ billion. The profits could be due to sacking employees or better margins...definitely not high number of phones...

Anonymous, 08 Jul 2016i would disagree with even your thinking. your saying that ... moreSo can you explain news statements like "...unsurprisingly, Samsung is selling fewer smartphones, a sign that the Galaxy S6 handset isn't selling as well as those before it". (The Inquirer, Nov, 2015)
"Combined sales of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge surpassed those of last year's Galaxy S5, but are hardly setting any records for Samsung." (Information Week, June 2015)
"Samsung says profits will fall as Galaxy S6 sales disappoint". (Telegaraph, July, 2015)
Sorry, were are comparing how well the S6 and Note.5s had success when they came out. Putting out a Note.5 with just 32GB in your country, and not even bothering selling the 64GB model was a disappointment.
I can afford original memory cards, and I got the 128GB out of frustration from the very poor treatment of the Note.5 - why would I get something that has LESS features, no memory expansion, with just 32GB?
Explain too polls results still pointing more than 70% keep telling that memory expansion is important. Latest news is that Samsung sold 26 million units, and is predicted to even make better profits than the last time they made a successful S line-up in 2014. Explain that.

and heres the quarter 2 earnings for 2014
amsung Electronics has released its financial results for the second quarter of 2014, showing the first drop in net profit in three years for the Korean electronics giant, and a slowdown in its smartphone sales. The company announced it had made a net profit of 6.25 trillion won ($6.1 billion), down from 7.77 trillion won ($7.58 billion) last year. It also recorded an operating profit of 7.19 trillion won ($7.02 billion) in the period — a 15 percent drop from last quarter — on revenues of 52.35 trillion won ($51.02 billion). The new figures mean Samsung's operating profit has dropped almost 25 percent from the same quarter last year, falling from 9.53 trillion won ($9.27 billion) in the second quarter of 2013.
yeah only 6.1 billion in profits.

AnonD-79616, 08 Jul 2016Here is the link for 2015 Q2: http://m.gsmarena.com/samsun... moreand samsung is a giant conglomerate , who has also seen increase in sales in chipset , displays and IC's without an actual breakdown of the profits. by your own logic the only thing they sell is flagship smartphones. When for all we actually know the increased profits could have came from the worlds first washing machine which cost a ton but gives a bj with each wash . women are happy because men are suddenly so eager to do laundry , and well we know why the men are happy. even the s5 had decent sales figures. but did not meat expectations. the s6 was a complete revamp because of the fact that the the plastic phone wasn't as premium as what people expected. which still sold well but again not meeting expectations. the s7 met expectations nothing more. and by your logic , it is completely and utterly because of the sd card , and waterproofing , the low light super focus camera had nothing to do with it. even the one plus 3 has no sd card. so again by your logic they should have failed. same with apple. no sd automatic failing company.

http://m.gsmarena.com/samsunga_q2_2015_earnings_reveal_a_small_quarteronquarter_increase-news-13312.php
I will quote what is important from it :
" Higher than anticipated demand and supply difficulties prevented Samsung from selling more Galaxy S6 edge devices during the quarter. In order to maintain sales momentum, the manufacturer will adjust the pricing of the Galaxy S6/S6 edge duo"
By your logic S5 should sell more than S6 but it is not. S5 year was the worst.

TheNoteMan, 08 Jul 2016So, explain why after S7 series started selling Samsung has... morei would disagree with even your thinking. your saying that it is all about the memory expansion. yet most the chinese phones listed, amazingly enough do not have memory expansion or removeable battery either. and last year they still had a great year . this year was just better. Their could be a billion reasons behind this. none of which has anything to do with just 1 thing. Yet I always see people who deem 1 thing being the most important feature. It's gone , It's back so therefore it must be the reason for increased sales. even the S5 sold well, after all to me , make 1 dollar profit above all r and d. and a phone made a profit which means it was good enough. but when a phone makes a retarded amount of profit, then i refuse to call it a slump or bad seller. hell i would take 1% of any of samsungs quarterly profits and be a really happy person. the thing about samsung is they make the whole package always has. and their at the forefront of making it better for everyone. I was always in agreeance with removing the sd card, and sealing the battery. know to many people after playing games while charging their phone for the longest time take a toll on their battery. and i live in the philippines where their are a billion ja fakes and the vendors all try to sell it as the real deal. or people go get a cheapy battery and wonder why their phone suddenly has issues and blames the manufacturer. same goes with all the ja fake sd cards i have seen. And i like having sd memory expansion for my photos and such. but i have also inserted a 16gb (you know the kind where they take a 2 or 4 gb and write out so it looks like a 16gb and your device reads it as a 16gb. you would be amazed what that will do to your phone. and of course that very person will be on a sight like this blaming the manufacturer for all the above. not to mention i agree with the limits of sd speeds , will make my day when their is a device that uses that ufs memory their making.

kakouille, 08 Jul 2016What about LG,HTC? Removable batteries,sd expansion.....THE... moreSo, explain why after S7 series started selling Samsung has soared so much profit? S6 series last year is almost the same design as S7 series, and are you suggesting that memory expansion had NOTHING to do with it? Heck, S6 came with 32, 64, and 128GB models available everywhere, yet Samsung had a slump in the mobile division THAT year.
S6 even has fast wireless charging, almost the same fast focusing camera, same excellent screen and even had infrared remote function. S7 ONLY came out with 32GB, but it's selling MILLIONS more than S6. Success of S7 series HAD NOTHING to do with the fact that Samsung GAVE BACK memory expansion? Don't tell us it was the "waterproofing" that made such a great impact on the sales.
It also had NOTHING to do with glass back - SAME thing with S6 and Note.5 (another disappointing product that had NO memory expansion).
SO, tell us WHY Samsung made such success if memory expansion is not a factor?

Romie Lee, 08 Jul 2016you forgot waterproofing...If "waterproofing" was the killer feature, Sony would have been the # 1 seller since Xperia Z. No, the point is that Samsung produces the most feature-packed flagships, and taking out something major like memory expansion was a big blow.

A Note 4 user, 07 Jul 2016I'm wondering how this figures will change shortly...
I'... moreThis is clear example of a person who had no intention of saying anything positive to begin with.
It's obvious that Samsung's latest devices are resonating very well with consumers, made even more evident by the company's Q2 2016 earnings. However, even with the proof directly in front of your eyes, you chose to be negative.
Btw, the Note 6 you referenced doesn't exist, so how did this imaginary device not appeal to someone as savvy as yourself? Where/when did you experience it directly? Can you share a review link?
Your comment is beyond laughable.

TheNoteMan, 07 Jul 2016Of course Samsung made profit from the S7 series. It was ap... moreNow we are at 4G LTE there isn't a need to upgrade
The market is to get a customer to buy the best smartphone there is
Two camps, Samsung with the S6 just built a Samsung version of the iPhone.
The S7 you're right with a sealed in battery (despite waterproof) has to go
So yes profits soar and whilst the S7 edge (&S6 Edge) are probably the most beautiful phones released they are not for me.
LG G4 & LG G5 are my preferred phones, but the constant need to have the best flagship is no longer a priority
Any one who cares will look after their phone, and despite the 'illogic' I am seeing more folio wallet phone cases that have credit card slots
(lose your phone lose your credit card also lol)
Samsung with soaring profits have to attract essentially new costumers for the S8 S8 Edge in order not to see a repeat of record breaking profits one year, only to drop the following year
I have 16Gb internal plus 64Gb expansion, 4G LTE, I don't need to upgrade, but Samsung needs to get back to basic
Quality build as in the original Alpha again a Samsung iPhone again only half done sealed in battery

It's no surprise really... So many people didn't upgrade to the S6 or Note 5 because there was no SD card and sales/profits dropped.... Now it's back they are up.
