NVIDIA announces GeForce GTX 1060 for $249

08 July, 2016
NVIDIA has announced the successor to the GTX 960 of last year and the latest in the new 10-series, the GeForce GTX 1060. This will be NVIDIA's latest bang-for-the-buck card and will compete with AMD's recently announced RX 480 in the mainstream segment.

You just denied your statement earlier, so why does it mean that I haven't done my research? I'm not being a douche, I'm just stating facts.

What is said initially was just a hopeful statement based on specs alone. If you are gonna be a douche right of the bat just coz you didn't agree with me, good luck with that...

AnonD-114015, 09 Jul 2016a gaming PC offcourse. Iam sick and tired of carrying my bu... moreNo kidding man, 1080 definitely cost a arm and a leg in my country as well, here I can build a PC with a GTX 970 in it for the price of one 1080.
Also if you are considering a ultrawide, better consider a 34" as it has incredible immersion when playing games and watching movies. 29" ultrawide is basically a 27" which doesn't look as impressive as its big brother. You may have some other reason for going with a dual setup, but if its purely for gaming again a 34" will be better.

And if you are spending as much as 2500 AUD I'd say cough up 400-500 more and go for a high end PC as you will enjoy your game more and that setup should last very long compared to the GTX 1060. Cut corners where it doesn't matters much in gaming and invest more where it matters more and you can have a GTX 1080 for 20%-25% more than your budget right now.

AnonD-114015, 09 Jul 2016in my dreams?? what are you, blind or something?! i said it... moreDo you think nvidia would let some kind of budget card beat their last year's flagship? Usually upgrades are like that. If it was 780ti next year it will be equal to 970 and later 1060. 1070 barely beats 980ti and you expect 1060 to perform like it? 1070 costs around 500$ and this will cost half as much. If 1060 was as fast as 980ti, it would make 1070 irrelevant. There is info on nvidia page. Please do some research before saying something stupid.

AnonD-206292, 09 Jul 2016Wow man I don't know what type of rig you're building, but ... morea gaming PC offcourse. Iam sick and tired of carrying my bulky laptop around. So gonna build a PC and get an xps 13 for on the go.
Iam not too keen on the 10x series as they are so expensive here. Infact, i can build an entry level gaming PC that costs the same as a 1080. Iam going for a dual monitor setup (a ultra wide 29" and a wide 23"), hence the price. Who knows, i might change my mind and go straight for the 1080, only time will tell :D

Maybe even a GTX 1080 if you stretch your budget to 3000 AUD approx.

If you have a GTX970 or higher card, then this isn't for you.

This is aimed at older gfx cards (And very much and anyone who was looking at the amd 480) and new cheaper build gaming pc's.

Whats impressive is the cost to power on this card, for the money its extremely impressive. It will definitely give bang for buck if its lives up to the hype.

Shorty Pimp, 08 Jul 2016"but there is no SLI support." This pretty much kills this ... moresaving 100 usd at the moment, then later paying bills for electricity 2x times more xd. Just what i am trying to say if you really want to save money, dont go with massive wattages, 2 cards will take 30-40% more wattage than 1 bigger card. You can count how much u will spent money for electricity.

"but there is no SLI support." This pretty much kills this card. the GTX *60 series has always been a favorite to buy and sli for better than a single GTX *80 series card and saving yourself 100 bucks.

other than that, I think it's gonna perform near the 970 in terms of actual gaming.

I do hope AMD counters this move from Nvidia by giving more stable overclocks on the non-reference designs. the Reference RX 480 was not good with OC. got high hopes for other manufacturers.

Besides Nvidia has already said it will perform like 980. Unless you decide to overclock GTX 1060 to 2 Ghz then it may get slightly closer to 980ti but will probably not match it.
