AMOLED vs. S-LCD HTC Desire screens fight it out

14 September, 2010
It's time for round 2 of the AMOLED vs. S-LCD match. It's not cut-and-dry, S-LCD does well in contrast and color reproduction, though not so well when it comes to the promised lower power usage and sunlight...

My box said that i didn't have the Amoled screen (Display said only "3,7-inch touch sensitive screen", if it's an amoled screen it should have said "3,7-inch Amoled touch sensitive screen". So I ordered the SLCD screen, which turned out to not be working. So the only reliable solution is bloodproving: disassemble your phone (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXZqIjtFoAU) and check the serial numbers. The Amoled number is P/N 60H00287-00P, the SLCD number is P/N 60H00443.

Sony Ericsson Xperia series uses LED backlit LCD. So they are inferior to AMOLEDs?

rebel, 15 Sep 2010they should compare oled by samsung.htc is not the bestThe amoled screens on HTC devices were supplied by Samsung, so there shouldn't be any difference between HTC amoled and Samsung amoled screens. However Samsung nowadays uses super amoled and started supplying amoled to others only when it's own devices were equipped with the all new and superior super amoled.

[deleted post]"The iphone 4 has a light grey as black so you can see its black"

This is one of the most stupid statements I've ever heard.

I can't go back to another phone without having a S-AMOLED screen.

                        s amoled is better.
that is why there is a amoled shortage.
htc and apple knows it. samsung owns it. the end.

S-AMOLED screens have over-saturated green and red. Both colors really "pops-up" which is very distracting. Gray color becomes reddish. I hate it. Made worse with Pentile-matrix. The only thing that impressed me was the very deep black.

[deleted post]LOL. Exactly that's what all the iPhone diehards would say indeed. Unfortunately for them, any S-AMOLED or newer screen tech from Samsung will not be offered to any Apples products. I truly feel for them. lol. :)

AMOLED is better for general viewing in terms of vivid brigter/darker color and who cares about zooming in to see pixels when playing back an HD movie or very high resolution images.

There's a big difference between the two. The S-LCD seems like a good alternative to the regular AMOLED and better than the TFT-LCD. Also, fyi Samsung and Sony collaborated to create the S-LCD. :)

JK, 14 Sep 2010Please research and see the difference in person before you... moreReading text on the Amoled screen is a pain because the my eyes constantly try to fokus on letters that always are "out of fokus". S-LCD gives a much better picture, and the "black" on the Amoled is caused by the fact that even other dark colours become black on the Amoled screen.
