Unless they made some hardware changes (or set the controllers up differenly) there won't be much of a difference. The GPU gets throttled 90% of the time already and the CPU somehow always runs the high-performance cores and enables the sidekicks when needed...

Anonymous, 11 Jul 2016Are you sure it is SD821 not SD820 ?Yup, its on Asus's site.

did they mention anything about battery drainage and heating up like previous 820?

Anonymous, 11 Jul 2016So basically an overclocked SD820. But I like it, I prefer ... moreIt depends.
Its always good to have 1 or 2 spare Cores for low power things running in background, its also pretty good to have multiple clusters (like the Helio x20 from MediaTek).
The deal is mostly: We can barely utilize 4 Cores, why do we need 10?
I think having 2 of each cluster would be pretty good, if the cores are powerful enough.

2 strong cryo-cores, 2 mid range cores and 2 low end cores for everything less demanding.

Ofc, its 6 cores and probably more than we need but it could help optimizing the powerusage depending on whats running.

AnonD-304329, 11 Jul 2016I don't really care about higher performance. But if highe... moreWith process maturation you can increase clocks while maintaining similar power characteristics for leakage and dynamic power. They wont take the pains of actually changing the pipeline stage delay to gain some sort of clock uplift. That calls for more costs, man hours and validation. This is just a process improvement and they want to market it as a higher tier core clocked SoC. Pretty standard practice this.

But if higher performance also means less power hungry I want it.

So basically an overclocked SD820. But I like it, I prefer higher clock rates over more cores which is normally pretty useless in real life

That means practically (real world usage) there will be almost negligible improvement from performance perspective .. It would be great if the manufacturers work on power consumption part & sustained performance of SOC rather than working on clocking it higher .. this really gives significant improvements in real world usage scenario ..
