Anyone remeber N92? It had optical zoom feature. It's not impossible but most companies don't do that as it increases weight and size. Also battery life suffers.To me smartphones sometimes are good for nothing. Why?
Even they have camera, they don't have much customisation as a Camera
They have music player but with UMTS on all the time for internet-you won't be able to listen as long as you can on dedicated MP3 palyer or iPod(15-21 hours!)
They can make calls, but sometimes you can't make calls as it may run out of battery due to multitasking, data intensive apps running in background etc.
So such phones are not good at any specific things. That's why I use a smartphone for internet and apps and an ordinary phone for making calls!!

I still don't know why people actually check out the processor speeds of mobiles. I guess its just another wierd thing about 3rd world self crowned mobile geeks. Kinda like the mentality that all phones made in china are of low quality. Stupidity in definition.
As for this phone, that it has optical zoom alone is enough to tell me that the camera is trash. Optical zoom is not really such a hard feature to implement. The problems are size and maintaining as much detail as possible in the shots. The stacked lenses tend don't help. Especially when everything is shrinked. Unless there folks have some how found away to keep the detail -and i'm positive they haven't unless they would have made a lot of noise about it- the camera would zoom in alright and shoot rubbish. Its not about the pixel count. Its about how many of those pixels actually count. Thats what makes the n8 the best camera phone there is. It uses no image sharpening or noise reduction. All the pixels tell their own stories.
Besides, optical zoom means many moving parts, coupled with plastic build means samsung style build quality. I don't think this mobile is something anyone would wan't to drop.

Since N8 has been announced, everyone that believes he knows something about phone has been saying: what the heck; no one needs a 12 mpx lens on a phone. it's all rubbish".
So it's really kind of funny that no one is criticizing this android phone for daring bring along a 14 mpx lens. In fact, I'm pretty sure they are going to be praising the android phone. I won't be surprised if Eldar of mobile-review is among them.
Eldar totally rubbished the HDMI output on the N8, classifying it as an unnecessary rubbish. Funny thing, not long after, the Galaxy Tab came out and it had an HDMI outout. In the Eldar preview/review of the Galaxy Tab, I didn't hear him say a simple negative thing about the feature on the Tab.
Just some funny observations, peopele.
In case you didn't know, Eldar also rubbished the USB on the GO feature on the N8. can you believe this guy and others like him.

Great Altek Leo, this is my next smartphone.
Amazing Leo: Optical Zoom 3x CCD and dual core processor image Sunny 9 -> amazing pictures. And videorecorder HD 720p.
Just one question: This device will be running by Android OS 2.1 Éclair
Will be possible update to 2.2 Froyo ??

no thanks, I don't buy unknown brands.
my option is still Nokia N8 as the best KNOWN 12MP camera-phone
I'll give it a few years before going to this unknown brand (IF it remains competitive by that time).

I saw this at a Gadget Convention back in May here in Stockholm. In sounds good here on paper but it was very heavy and felt like a cheap built. Also the OS was very laggy with 1-2 sec delays all the time between menus, similair to LG's handset lagginess. Also the photos did not look any better than even any 8Mp phone on the market. Actually i personally felt the 12MP phones already out have much better pictures. I don't know if Altek has changed anything on the phone since then. But if it's the same hardware ans software like a swa it back in May, then then it's not even worth 200 Euros unlocked. I am very curious about the pricing.

If this has a great processor such as the Snapdragon 1ghz then it will be one of the best phone on the market, it has the 3 main things people look at when ordering, great camera great OS and great processor (hopefully)
