Considering that the n8s photo sensor is over 1.5 times the size of this 16mp units, i'ld tell you for sure, its a piece of crap. Just a marketing gimmick. The image would be 16mp large alright but it won't contain as much detail as the n8. The n8s remains to beat as far as mobile cameras units go.

just put more in a 1/2.8 image sensor, that
incredibly is still less than the integrated to your camera phone
top line!
1/2.8 for over 16 megapixels!
it is quite absurd !
pixon 12 uses a sensor for image 1/2.5 for 12 megapixels!
the n8 use a spectacular image sensor of venus engine with panasonic
size 1 / megapixels 1.83 for 12 megapixels !
philosophy with that know when the sony ericsson debunked the n8 the throne best western world camera phone??
answer: never!

Obviosly the lens on N8 is good enough to capture well above those 5MP you talk of.
So there is a gain in detail.
You might ask what those details are for.
Well for an A4 photo quality print you need more than 8MP... so 5 wont cut it. For photo size its enough, however.
But in a device lacking optical zoom, high resolution picture can mean that you can zoom in on details (sometimes done by croping in the phone itself, while taking the picture... But I would prefer some kind of feature that tags the area and leaves it up to the user to later decide if they want the crop or the full size image).
Sure mobiles cant match the quality of a really good point and shooter camera. Or at least not as long as there is some ongoing development in that area.
But they can offe good enoug quality for the average consumer.
So its very likely that mobiles can kill the market for point and shooters.
What you can do with 5MP is irrelevant as long as you can do more with 12 or 16 megapixels.

5 MP WIth Iso & Xenon Flash Is Enough For Taking a Decent Photo . no need for 12 or 16 etc.....mobile phones for communicating not for taking photos or video ..even if they made 20 MP with 1080i full Hd 3d video recording ..it will never ever match the real camera or camcorder.beleive me people god gave us abrains ..try to use it and dont blelive this sh...xxx!!

As I said..sony cyber shot series phone only used the sony cyber shot ui..useless..
Again,people will bored when see the function,ui,software is same between the cyber shot and walkman phone..juz likes the same phone with differend type of ear phone..

We want great optics likes Carl Zeiss optic lens from NOKIA..juz imagine if that 16.4MP Carl Zeiss optics..thats not same!!!

SE always make desirable phone hardware, but software department sucked. Android 1.6 still, I am waiting for my Xperia x10a update to 2.2 (which is never....)! I should have get HTC instead
