It is future cell tower technology.
New York has some infrastructure in place.
Seems like a few chinese phones have this aerial setup in place; this is one of the first ones that could be mass market deployed stateside (and Canada)
It also allows an increase from 6bit transfers to 8bit tranfers (protocol change) which increases the throughput, effective, with each transmission. Could allow less signal transfer, technically, could prove practical (tech as a whole) in reducing ping speeds (gamers rejoice) and will likley be used for maintaining 'line' quality with the extra links.

But if you buy the Note7 now you'll have a device that you can use 2-3 years without a flaw and then it will still be a device that's on par with 2018 devices: fast processor, 2k display, usb-c, fastest LTE, iris scanner, water resistant, modern design (78% screen to body ratio), gorilla glass 5, best in class camera, it will receive updates until Android 10 arrives, it can play HDR videos, etc etc.
The Note7 is a future device in any way!
By paying the high price you are paying for comfortable 3 years

So the Snapdragon version comes with USB 3.1, Exynos with 2.0.
Snapdragon comes with MIMO, exynos comes without.
I wonder what's next...

Awesome,.. link at end of article give full rundown.
I wouldn't live in New York City. (Not without a crazy shielding hat and an apartment in a copper cage!)
But I am an overly concerned 'hippy'!
Excellent to getting the extra bits per transmission... this can lower the bandwidth saturation.
The article mentions that most flagships (qualcomm) presently haven't enabled this feature yet. Though most chinese brands with the requisite modem part (qualcomm) have.
It also confirms why most white papers (isn't most paper white) on the topic of internet deliver confirm we need a hardware (cable/fibreoptic/copper etc) network for mass delivery and wireless should be a supplemental tech for our data needs.
Really wouldn't find me living in a big city....
(Also ignore my posts further down this 'opinions thread' off topic and misunderstood...!!)

Imagine the IT classroom teacher who can have twenty students linked up to their phone/modem...
Wouldn't want to walk out of the room and have twenty simultaneous youtubers going bonkers. Big bills I would imagine!

Correct whatever is wrong here,.. some of this information might be out of date or flat out incorrect,.. (I am not a paid journalist, have no integrity to prove etc)
First gen 4G device,.. being a new tech, had actual aerials,.. not included in a smaller fabbed chip.
It did a better job maintaining connection.
When aerials get smaller,.. the power to make them work has to be increased.
There are tradeoffs all around.
So battery does get affected by chipset pairing/selection.
As for MIMO 4x4, this has by user perception always been a wifi / local network thing.
My perception of 'multiple in multiple out' with 4 aerials, is to allow, perhaps potentially different technologies (eg G/N/AC)and more devices to connect.. when the phone is in hotspot mode.
If this is for cell network connection, this is some cool tech,.. with some potential caveats..
There is a chance that a 4x4 setup will have smaller aerials than a 2x2 setup.
Cell network throughputs are already ridiculously quick.. more bandwidth? Some users might need, but most pricing plans do not make this affordable..(to the masses),.. reducing pings on the other hand might be useful to gamers.
One thing I like about being on 4G on a cell that isn't at max capacity is getting very small pings.... I certainly do not need the 90mbps (11+ megabytes per second) speed that this allows(when not congested). My upload speeds through my mobile phone also blow away my ADSL2+ setup (less than 1km from the exchange).
Anyhow,.. someone clear this up.. the article suggests this MIMO is for cell towers, not local networking and hooking up more devices &/or possibly with varying tech eg G/N/AC..
It gets confusing when the nonmenclature for our industry is used with varying intentions.. eg 'wireless'; being 'wireless network' around the house, and 'wireless internet' coming into the house. No wonder people get confused by computers....
