Stop! It's hammer time for the Galaxy Note7

16 August, 2016
You don't have to be a fortuneteller to know what'll happen. The Galaxy Note7 sports a Gorilla Glass 5 on the front and it survives the knife test pretty well. However, that's not the case when the hammers started dancing to the tunes of destruction.

DenisXD, 16 Aug 2016Seriously GSM boys? You share these like we should watch ... morei didn't watch the video, but its nice to read all the interesting comments....anyways noone in the right mind would drop a hammer on your phone, nor would he drop a belt buckle(but thats how my xperia z1 broke)..a coin test, sand paper test, underwater usage test..btw wat will happen to the water that gets in the pen slo after you use the pen underwater??
a hammer test probably shows the endurance..he's probably getting payed for each youtube hit..

Srb, 17 Aug 2016yea right. The only way to make it scratch resistant is sapphireyea true...
its an ongoing battle between saphire and gorilla....if you make it tough, the glass is softer and prone to scratches, if you make it scratchproof, it will be hard and brittle. the best option is to get gorilla and ascreen guard..tell me honestly, other than a nokia is there any phone you wouldn't put a screen guard on?

Just about everything with that phone was perfect. (Except the winphone nature of its' operating system; which I refuse to update, because presently it works well)

No metal or glass on the back,.. curved glass edges on the front, recessed a little to protect it...
      Hmmm

Funny how my two, active phones will be a nokia 920 and a note 7.
Note Edge becomes a loungeroom lifestyle product (mini tablet) for day to day stuff.
And a backup phone if my Note 7 decides to shatter... extensively researching protection options presently....

Thomasj5, 16 Aug 2016So this phone is not quiet idiotproof yet. If you're using ... moreEverytime something is made 'idiot proof', we build a better idiot everytime! (kenshin wandering samurai I'm watching you!)

Windows desktop, software is proof... they went against 'industry practise' of having an admin account set up the machine, and like to make users, by default, admins....

So they have to keep burying things in menus, further and further away from the users prying/clicking fingers..
            (Format c:? Sure why not..!)
I guess they do charge good money for upskill training.. so they have made an industry out of it.
Sure windows might be offtopic, but they are the bane of life.. two machines on my desk being near unavoidable (to average users) for getting updates, instead insisting on 'windows 10', which if their recent mail server trick is anything to go by,.. no thankyou.

As a great example, 'try following microsofts links' to download service pack 1 for windows seven. Of course it is the bottom file (windows 6.1), and then make sure you get the right version cause x86 sounds like 32bit to the average user. Windows update on their machine failing to grab it, or any updates, rather 'suggesting nicely' to install 10.
Same experience on windows 8 machine next to it.
Two nasty glaring examples reeks of 'class action lawsuit' to me..
But I am alright, I have been navigating their minefields for decades.
All been pretty downhill,.. and they didn't start high!
But computers have to be sold with an operating system, and they are industry 'standard'. (Please consumers run a mile from these products unless you really have to have a piece of software on their platforms, in which case, run a virtual machine (much more secure and stable) on a competing platform. Any will do nicely.

            Rant continuing..
I like (sarcasm, the lowest humour) how they nixed netbooks with linux by only 'making windows cheap enough' that industry went with windows again, but forced machines to have 1gb of ram(or less) and no solid state drives.
So full sized machines with 'full priced' windows wouldn't cannabalise sales..
They simply were not going to allow competitors in..
Look out UEFI as a great example of industry power (skylake going forward)
Their anticompetitiveness (or extreme competitiveness) has driven their product to be the worst available.
So,.. a repeat of windows phone?
Well we all think windows 10 for 'free' is 'worth it'; so they cash grab in other ways..
Moving people to outlook(dotcom), and charging for cloud storage (in the future).
Avoid their products; you have been warned.

            See; great offtopic rant!

L Kd, 16 Aug 2016Faith in humanity lost. What a complete waste of my time.Given they probably figure that the 'cost of the phone'(to them) is worth the youtube page hits (why I will not watch)..
True, the planet doesn't need to suffer making this shipt just so we can break this shiz...

If it had 'dummy' interior would be vastly less resourse consuming for our lovely planet..
I bet the video doesn't even do tests that need it to have a working interior or correct weighting.
Except possibly the fact that it is (likely) switched on just to show they can afford the cash down...

AnonD-401037, 16 Aug 2016A no-go phone by Samsung. Why the heck would they release a... moreMaybe Samsung provided forcasts to Corning (makers of gorilla glass) of 'fair sales predictions' based on their industry numbers (a couple of years ago), and Corning built resourses to follow suit. (Taking out large loans or leveraging their bets on Samsung delivering on that claim).

For the last couple of years, Samsungs growth (in sales) of their phones not matching previous growth rate, maybe they had to go back to the 'drawing boards' and find a way to 'double their use of glass. And they did it...

Some things confirm this could be the case, such as them finally making a tougher Gorilla glass that didn't just get thinner in final implementation....

                This would explain a lot..

Silly musings aside; perhaps Samsung considers the 'flat' variant of the Note the Note 5.
It is available in the market, and allows Samsung to learn about their customer base (consumers vote with their wallets); if consumers want flat more than 'micro sd', then they can grab a much cheaper Note 5 (on carrier plans etc/now being 25% cheaper).
They would have enough market analysts to figure our any usnusual sales figures...

Guess we will see with the Note 8 which way consumers go...

Nice! Samsung is doing well on their build quality, but they should be, because Samsung devices always used to be smashed or dropped on the floor from the windows from the balcony ... Seriously, i am talking about experience.
