MeeGo soon to be available for some Nokia N900 dual-booting fun

14 October, 2010
The long wait is almost over, dear Nokia N900 owners. The Finnish company's developers are almost done porting MeeGo to the sweet QWERTY slider and promise to release it to the general public...

Anyway, this is great news for the N900 users, its still my favourite Nokia smartphone of all time and lives upto the original Nseries idea of Multimedia Computer. Looking forward to seeing how MeeGo does, the N900 could just have another year in the market.

Arron, 14 Oct 2010well said. the community is really helpful and i think ill ... morecan you explain in detail how you overrun the CPU to 900 Mhz?
i know it takes a bit of IT knowledge for that.

for now i must say indeed, the N900 is a bit (if not quite) slow at times. Sometimes the CPU runs at 100%, and there is no app running - puzzling.

MeeGo... i need to see it to believe it. I put my faith in Maemo, with all its "app potential", but i have probably 2 decent apps on it, and no decent game, it's all the bloody 80's. i don't want to play and old SEGA game on my high end mobile phone in year 2010...

i was all against iphone and its limitations, but that shitty phone is the only phone apple has, and anyone must admit, the thing is well supported.

after taking the N900, now i cannot trust the N8, which also looks like a promising phone.

but still hoping to save my N900 from the "ferrari riding at 20 km/h"... we'll see. if not, goodbye Nokia, and i'm going back to the berries or an iphone...

Technical GanXta, 14 Oct 2010Maemo is not a "dead end". Nokia stated it is not... moreWell if no other phone will support it, Maemo is dead. How long to you expect to be able to buy the N900? Even those who have it now, will become bored with the obsolete hardware. Nobody wants to buy an year old phone, these days, less in the future.

Dual boot means you can install two or more OS in the same machine and choose which too run. You don’t run both at the same time, so the RAM will only get filled from one OS running. This is different from using Parallel or Virtual Machines.

Storage memory in the other hand, both OS will be kept in the storage. But probably they can find a way to install MeeGo to the memory card.

Nawaz, 14 Oct 2010watz dual booting ?dual booting means you can run your phone on both maemo and meego. Wen you start the phone you can choose what operating system you want to run your phone in, and switch according to your needs. Its basically what linux does. You can run ubuntu and windows at the same time, or run windows xp and windows 7 at the same time. It basically provides you the option of having one stable system, and being able to test an other one on the side

this is amazing... finally nokia will release the most powerful os in the mobile industry. And the best part is, that this means the nokia n9 with meego is around the corner too. This OS is more powerful than android so bun all you android fanboys. Wen you have nokia, intel, arm, mozilla, linux and bmw supporting ur OS, U KNOWWWW ur sh!t is where its at.
                            hail nokia

Maemo is not a "dead end". Nokia stated it is not officially supported anymore, but helped the community elect a council that will govern said community and will take control of things. In other words, Maemo is going to continue to thrive in the hands of the entire community, as it's an open source OS (for a change).
Anyway this is great news. No other phone on the market offers (OFFICIALLY) multiple OSes to choose from!

NOKIA - you are such a let down. You will pay the price in the long term for your neglect of your customers who bought the N900. I've had mine 6 months and it is crap.

The future of phones is in HTC.
