MeeGo soon to be available for some Nokia N900 dual-booting fun

14 October, 2010
The long wait is almost over, dear Nokia N900 owners. The Finnish company's developers are almost done porting MeeGo to the sweet QWERTY slider and promise to release it to the general public...

Perhaps Meego will not run on any Nokia hardware except n900. Meego has very high hardware demand and none of nokia phones except n900 has ARM Cortex 8 cpu and SGX 520 class GPU. n900 is expected to run the os, but user experience might be pathetic due to its relatively slow hardware compared to Intels processors, which is 3X faster in computations and graphics. Perhaps this is the reason for nokia to not support the OS officially.

N900 is a bad phone and Megoo is a bad OS...
N8 is the best then iphone4.
Android phones is good also but I like Symbian like alot of users..
            No need for new OS
Even windows phones has alot of issues...

[deleted post]N900 "Worlds most popular phone ever"? lol... From my completely unbiased point of view because I dont own either an N900 or an iphone - It's sold so few numbers Maemo is never even mentioned in smartphone OS market share figures. Compared with iOS which has about a 30% share give or take depending on which stats you look at. Considering theres only 4 different models of iphone on average each one would have about an average of 8% share of total smartphones sold. You still think the N900 is the most popular phone ever?

Due to such support from Nokia I sold my N900 and buy Android phone. I spend lots of money to buy N900 and with it Nokia lost me forever...

Shame on Nokia. Why arent they supporting it if they port it?
By abandoning Maemo and going with Meego they not only left N900 owners out to dry they also showed compete disdain to anyone who poured their energy into developing apps for Maemo. These groups of people are the "early adopters" and are therefore arguably Nokias biggest fans and this is how they are treated? They cant do anything for the developers but the least they could do is support Meego on the N900. Further, they're still releasing phones with the symbian OS which for all money is dead and buried. Very few developers will be game enough to write stuff worthy of the latest hardware on the newest Nokia symbian phones. Nokia continue to make poor decisions based on profit rather than repaying consumer loyalty. Maybe they would have been better off if they'd decided a long time ago to "pee in their pants for warmth" because right now to me it appears they're "s#!ting in their pants" instead and many loyal Nokia fans will walk away because they dont like the smell.

                        "It's what computers have become"

I don't seem to remember any computers with tiny screens back in the day.

You can't code a program on a smartphone so they will never be classed as computers.

Nokia has given an official answer to this. And it is that public WILL NOT get the dual booting. It's only for developers. Surely there WILL be a way to do this, but it will not be an official Nokia feature...

i hope this clears up a lot of the shortcomings of the n900. Will this OS give native mms support or do you have to wait another year for a programmer to write up a rough mms program? Will it give navigation? Will it give a way to clear user data off the phone without having to flash 2 programs using linux ?

Apart from the difference via will be in UI, will meego on N900 possess any true functionality over maemo?

In other words, on n900, what can meego do that you would not be able to do with maemo? Will for instance take n900 video recording to HD?
