I don't think I've owned a phone that lasted 2 years! S6 Edge lasted 9 months! I just bought a P8 in Bahamas from local carrier for US$240! Updated to 6.0 with a European update I downloaded and am good to go. Nice phone, no more Samsungs after S3, 2 S4's and S6E in 4+ years!

I have had a P9 for 3 months now, and during that time I have received 3 updates. The phone is still on June security patch, but still 3 updates for the last 3 months speaks good to me.
My colleague's p8 lite received an update to Android 6 Marshmallow, so I hope that with this phone I will see both Android N (this one is granted) and hopefully Android O.

Anonymous, 20 Aug 2016I'm happy I didn't buy oneplus one, good luck to you. Too bad for you then. Oneplus One is one of the best phone for the money during its time, and it is up to date to 6.0.1 with latest August security update. Other than Nexus phones, it's hard to find any 2 year-old Android phone with up to date software.

Compared to other Chinese OEMs, Huawei is trying to price themselves higher, for better margins. This is probably one marketing attempt to justify their higher pricing. Proof will be in the pudding. Huawei already have a lot of models on the market ever since they made the Nexus 6P. Let's see if this is not just some empty talk. In the end, revenues come from selling new devices, not updating old ones.

Android lag? Lol only old Samsung phones can lag. My Sony Xperia Z3 never lag. Apple fans don't post negative comments without using an Android phone.

Flossy420, 19 Aug 2016Still not as good as apple IPhone 4S still getting updates... moreYeah but it is like comparing getting security update vs feature update. Android really evolved since the past years. Still today, an old version like JellyBean 4.2 is still packed with so much API that devs can easily develop on it. Apps support is getting deprecated on iOS 8 and older. Features that are available since JB aren't available yet (it took years to put an NFC sensor on the iPhones and you can't even use it outside Apple Pay, while Samsung had some on their Galaxy SII (very old, isn't it?) and on Gingerbread!

You can't compare an OS that innovates with an OS that only change the UI...

They've just realised that they're becoming bigger and bigger, and need to satisfy their users by giving them free update. Good!! Finally!

I'm happy for that, don't get me wrong, but i still would love to see companies commit to 36 months... - Would it be worth it? Yes! Must admit that second hand buyers would profit from that a lot while the company would profit less...

Easier said than done. We'll see if Huawei can keep their words. Updating old phones don't bring revenues, selling new phones do. Marketing may say this today, but when quarterly results are the priority, I doubt Huawei would keep their words.

I am just glad I bought the OnePlus one. It is up to date to the latest August security patch. Kudos to OnePlus and CM, even though they have parted ways.
