Anonymous, 20 Oct 2010So are you saying that nokia, lg, samsung, etc are not popu... moreI should really be sleeping now, but here we go:
- Apple has more presence and is enjoying its status now as a prestigious brand thanks to its marketing strategies and a combination of good tech with design. That's a given. The modern, hipster culture prefers the minimalism Apple products are known for. Thus, it will be more popular than any of your mentioned brands.
- The reviews should not be easily believed; there are still reviewers who can be biased toward one product or another. What matters is the honest user reviews which are objective on the phone's performance, and not basing it on external factors such as the brand, history or popularity.
- The iPhone 4 is really a good candidate for the most well-rounded smartphone ever, with better improvements while overhauled in design. That's a given. However, if we compare it side-by-side with rivals such as a Galaxy S I9000, we could objectively see how superior Android could be in other aspects. Things such as multi-tasking, AMOLED display, sync with Google apps, widgets and WiFi Tethering set it apart as well as the inherent open-source nature of the OS. The iPhone's limited iOS loses in that respect.
So, are we done yet? I'll return hopefully tomorrow for more responses. Have a good day.

It's processor is on par with the other top phones. It's music player is still the best. It offers more apps than the rest. It still has the best touchscreen. Safari is still a top contender. It's camera is one of the best beating the galaxy s and the droids in the reviews. So how can you say that it's easily beaten buy the others?

How can a 4 yr old phone be more popular than those others who have been around in decades? How can you say that the ip4 performs poorly compared to its rivals when ALL reviews calls the ip4 one of the best, if not the best smartphone out there? Keep your bitter and biased opinion to yourself :)

But I don't know about the "tech" part, though. Most other phones could beat the iPhone 4 in that category: Samsung Galaxy S, Motorola Droid X, HTC Desire HD.

The ip4 has already sold over 14 million units and is still having stock shortages in some stores, and you have the nerve to say that no one cares about style? The ip4 is a well balanced phone. It offers top tech in a stylish package.

And its performance is worse compared to other smartphones of its league, like the Droid/Milestone or the Epic 4G. The reviewers praised the features because they're partly wrapped in eye-candy along with the truth that it does perform well... until others came along.

Anonymous, 20 Oct 2010The ios was never meant to be a mass product in the first p... moreBelieve it or not, the iPhone DID become a mass-market phone. Just look at the number of phones present in the US; about 2 out of 5 would be an iPhone. It has turned from a niche product to a commodity, in which has then become a standard. For what? Popularity.
Which then comes to my argument that Apple's dominance in the smartphone market will start to fade out in favor of a more robust OS that is Android. Sure it is intended to be mass-market, but it also tends to the power users who want more from their phones. And those people aren't usually happy about iOS' closed platform. It's like the gimped, limited console experience versus the freedom given by the PC in gaming.

It's a race on who's gonna turn up better screen displays, higher-quality cameras, more powerful processors on the shortest amount of time. Haven't you seen the Droid Does commercials? They're marketing the specs, not the aesthetics (which Apple loves to do).

It's a niche product, and it will remain a niche product. Android is meant for the masses. Apple will not change their ways just because there are people like you who is against with what they stand for. Go ahead and never buy the iphone. Obviously, Apple is doing quite well without your support.

guys a little bit of common sense... the fight or I should say the competition is not android vs iphone... Its android vs android? as long as android phone manufacturers dont focus on the android store and they only focus on manufacturing stylistic phones then having a very good or a very nice phone such as the samsung galaxy S is useless without good applications...

Anonymous, 20 Oct 2010how many devices of android and how many of ios? do proper ... moreIt doesn't take a half-brain to realize that sales don't mean everything. I don't think a device (iPhone) that's been making sales out of sheer hype, brand prestige and hipster culture popularity would actually justify its success in terms of pure performance alone. Instead of looking at the current numbers, try to look at the trend.
Apple's shares are falling, while Google's is rising. It's only a matter of a year or two before the two are neck-in-neck in the corporate stock market. That would imply that consumer interest in Android has risen while the opposite goes for the iPhone; it's one brand in one carrier versus an army of multiple brands spanning many carriers.
Apple's closed approach to development is hurting itself all the more, preventing innovation in favor of control of its environment. Android is just getting better with every iteration and every flavor of its software. HTC, Motorola and Samsung are releasing powerhouses like mad
in the form of the Galaxy S series, Droid series and many more.
If Jobs wants to have our trust back, then he should be less involved in the direction of his products and the development of the software. Apple should give more freedom to 3rd-party developers. Allow other technologies like Flash to proliferate and accept that the iOS is getting too stale. Improve the basic features, FFS.

What do u expect from overpriced phone? Assemble cost same as N8, but ridiculously expensive, 3 times I think plus with the marketing strategy, and the mass media focusing on iPhone creating Hype and alot people buy the phone due to hype.
