Nexus 4 was a terrible phone.

                - Easy to crack rear glass
                - Poor battery life
                - Poor camera
                - Washed out display

A Moto E2 can now outperform it. Most budget phones today have surpassed flagships from that era.

I guess... moreThe fact that Sony also does the same thing and is much better than iPhones makes Apple devices completely run for their money. I mean what else does iPhone offer that Android doesn't? And 75% of the world uses Android

AnonD-428852, 27 Aug 2016Dear Apple Fans , • First of all please understand the hug... moreThe last one is just a personal preference. For example, some people say new features in android are just bloat. And to the second, it depends on if you talk about official support or XDA support at android. If you talk about official, then you can compare it to Galaxy S3 and S4. They both didn't get even half of the update support time the iPhone 5 got. But if you talk about unofficial support, the Android phones are more comparable and some are much better.

Anonym, 27 Aug 2016Price is of the essence and support is also very expensive.... moreOK I understand your arguments. Let's calculate:

scenario 1: You buy a Galaxy Nexus in April 2012. (titanium-silver) At that time, it costed € 390 on Amazon. It gets updates until Android 4.3 released in July 2013. 4.3 is up-to-date until October 2013. You sell it for € 230 on ebay (this is what the one year old Nexus 5x costs used today). Now you need a new nexus phone. The newest device is the nexus 4. (black) You can get it for € 285 on Amazon. It gets updates until Android 5.1.1 from April 2015. 5.1.1 is up-to-date until October 2015. You sell it for € 160. (It isn't comparable to the now 2 years old Nexus 6 which is more expensive, so I calculated the same percentage of depreciation as with the Galaxy Nexus) At that time, Nexus 5x is released, but not ready to buy yet.
So you have to buy Nexus 5 or Nexus 6. As you want to be up-to-date, you buy the newer and bigger Nexus 6 for € 520. (blue, 32GB) It gets updates longer than September 2016 when iPhone 4s support ends. Now, you sell it on ebay and get € 280 (what you get today).

scenario 2: You buy an iPhone 4s in April 2012. (16GB, black) At that time, it costed € 640 on Amazon. It gets updates until iOS 9.3.5, released in August 2016. 9.3.5 is up-to-date until September 2016. You sell it for € 100. (what a 16GB black iPhone 4s used costs today.

                            And now the result.

                            In scenario 1:
                            Galaxy Nexus costed € 390 and sold for € 230. You spend € 130.
                            Nexus 4 costed € 285 and sold for € 160. You spend € 125.
                            Nexus 6 costed € 520 and sold for € 280. You spend € 240.
All together, you spend € 495.

                            In scenario 2:
                            iPhone 4s costed € 640 and sold for € 100. You spend € 540.

In the end, you spend € 55 less for the iPhone. This is a difference of 8%.

But you also have to calculate the depreciation in case you drop it and crack the screen or if you use a case and screen protectors the cost of these.

So in the end, we come to about the same amount of money you spend.

And you also don't have better hardware in one. It ties because Nexus devices are often mid range devices. So the Galaxy Nexus is worse than the iPhone 4s, the Nexus 4 is on par and the Nexus 6 is better than it.

                              Dear Apple Fans ,
                              • First of all please understand the huge difference between an open platform and a closed one .
The first one (ex. Android) can't be controlled by one side because it needs a lot of steps to deliver a small update {Requiring hardware updates from hardware manufacture - Working on the new update - Requiring approval from Google - Editing update - Testing update - requiring approval from telecommunication company - sending update to a closed group of testers - finally ; Delivering the update to all users} this is just an example .
                              • Secondly : Please consider that you pay money not just for the phone , but also for future software support . Here when you compare between nexus 4 and iPhone 5 you should consider the price difference .
                              • Thirdly : Android updates is much richer than iOS updates . You can compare between Android 4.1 Jellybean and Android 7.0 Nougat , then compare between iOS 6 and iOS 10 .
After all , iOS is good and Android is good , Each of us just choose what he likes more .

One phone is supported for many years but also costs over many times the other. -- For the price you pay to support old hardware you could have gotten new hardware with the support that comes with it.

In your example, you get much better value with a Nexus 4 for the 2-3 years it was supported and then you simply replace it by a new model (being the 2 phones together bellow the price of a single iPhone 5).
