It looks ugly. And I'm sure it will overheat as usual just like all sony phones.

Sony just lost an invaluable opportunity of being the *only* true flagship Android in a compact form, aka the only thing that would make iPhone SE buyers jump ship to a really more powerful platform -- and what an amazing opportunity it was to waste.

It was like right there, in front of their eyes.
The final insult is the price they are trying to charge for this half-assed version.

Even then, I would have expected nothing less than the SD820 or 821 put to use in this handset, and maybe then I would have forgiven the exclusion of water proofing. But there's simply too many negatives. My Z3C is still a solid performer despite nearly 2 years of age. It has water proofing, 4K video recording, and a (for the time) high-end SD801 chipset. I don't know why Sony keeps downgrading the compact. They ruined a perfectly good chance to have the ONLY flagship-spec phone on the market under 5" in size.

Steve, 01 Sep 2016This looks like a phone from 2009. I've been looking to dow... moreApparently no one wants a 6"-6.44" behemoth either. There's nothing wrong with owning a compact/small phone long as the internal hardware is up to par, manufacturers usually skimp in that area on the more massive versions of their flagships, which usually fall in the 5.5" range anyway. And FYI the XR is 5.2" which is slightly bigger than the X/XP not much but it's an improvement from you side of things.

My last sony phone was xperia sp. i was very dissapointed in it after usung it for 6 mos. it was very laggy, and there was no future update at that time! I trade it with a second hand iphone 4s and i was very satisfied with iphone. Until now i used iphone 6. You dont need lots of rams, quadcore and etc., what you need is an optimized device.

I love sony that much. Still trying to get one and stay up to date on their new devices, when I saw the leak that there will be new compact I was very excited.. But 9.5mm thick???! 9.5?! For that price? I liked the xz with usb c and new camera. But that thick??????????? Seriously sony?

I get the feeling that Sony isn't looking at the competition. If they did they'd know they are getting beat in every aspect of what they are trying to sell...

And here we are again. 2 perfectly capable phones once ruined by very minor deficiencies.
                        1. Sony Xperia XZ. This phone , just like Xperia X Performance and HTC 10, isn't a bad phone by any means. Infact this is really a great device, but it is it's price that will let it down against its competition. By the time Xperia XZ makes it to the market, Samsung Galaxy S7 will already be available for at least 150-200 $(may be even 250$) less than this phone and with a much more global availability. Not to forget the small time but really capable phones like Huawei P9, P9 Plus, Honor 8 and ZTE Axon 7(damn that phone costs 400$ with 2 years warranty). I don't know how can one convince someone to buy an Xperia XZ instead of those phones except that Galaxy S7 has a Glass back which I completely despise.
So what Sony should have done to really make this still brilliant smartphone stand in the crowd was:
                        i. They should have outed it with Snapdragon 821, even if that processor really doesn't add up much to the user experience, but still. If Asus can get their hands on that processor for Zenfone 3 Deluxe, why couldn't Sony.
ii. For a FHD display, I am totally fine with 3 GB ram, but again, to stand out and really look eye to eye to the bigger and more potent players, they should have outed it with 64 GB base storage. WTH Sony, Huawei P9 Plus and ZTE Axon 7 can do that, but you can't.
iii. In a 7.9 mm and 7 mmthick body, Samsung and Huawei could accommodate 3000 mah batteries respectively, but sony in an 8.1 mm couldn't? Come on Sony, you can definitely do better than that.
iv. Launch it either with a price equivalent to Galaxy S7's launching price, or even better, for a lesser price. That would really give them a head start at least against the upcoming LG V-20 and IP 7.
                        2. Sony Xperia X Compact. Well one simple thing, SD 652 instead of 625 and price it at least equivalent to either Huawei P9 or if they truly want to make a mark, then Honor 8. That would have really put Xperia X compact on everyone's radar, but for now, I don't have a very good feeling for both these devices.

3GB ram again. But don't worry Sony phones work very smooth and 3GB ram is enough for Sony.

no OIS, no 4GB ram, no physical Android buttons (despite the big bottom bezel), no VR (Google daydream) - and a much later release to the market...
                              So why bother with Sony?
It seems Sony is intentionally screwing its flagships!

and it would continue to be like this. Sony is daydreaming! Samsung, LG, HTC etc joined Google's daydream VR initiative- but who didn't? Sony! Again, wants to keep lagging behind!

This company needs a kick in the behind to wake up! and a new visionary leader!

Wow, Sony is on the fail roll. How is it possible to run such good Z-compact series into the ground? I mean, Im not talking about little progress, it is really regression compared to the Z3, for instance.

Looks like Sony is going to release the next overpriced, ugly flagship-phone für 800$ with poor specs and bad design. They'll probably loose a lot of market share, if this is their future.
There are so many other brands with much better devices and better specs for less money.
I mean look at the specs. SD820, okay, but 3GB Ram? 1080p Display? Thats not enough to compete with Sony, LG, Huawei and so on. And the worst thing is the design. Okay, its edgy which is good. But the bezels are way too big.
